A 6.9 magnitude earthquake off eastern Japan near Fukushima prefecture has prompted a tsunami warning of possible 3m (10ft) waves.
The quake struck on Tuesday morning at about 06:00 local time (21:00 GMT, Monday), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The depth of the quake was estimated to be around 11km (7 miles).

Really good idea to build Nuclear reactors on top of earthquakes and Volcanos?????
Still it is bit late to change now...they have to Earthquake and Volcano proof them!

Still in the latest issue of New Scientist it claims by 2076 the World's population will have imploded.
We will be on the road to extinction.
They are already giving up sex in Japan

right beside nuclear power station ----------------
That is currently out of commission - with most of it's radioactive materials having been removed, since the 2011 Earthquake.
As is the case with ALL other Nuclear Power Plants in Eastern and Northern Japan (the Quakes area)

Is it a good idea to build any nuclear power plant anywhere? if it goes wrong.. it goes wrong in a big way. 50 square miles, think that thru ? fifty miles thata way - fifty miles the other way.. poisoned by invisible particles that you cannot detect unless you buy a geiger counter. Is this Wisdom ? fukushima has overtaken Chernobyl as the biggest cluster Fk in environmental disaster. They cannot deal with it? the size and scope is too big. they need superman to clean it up and he's still on flippin Krypton.
i heard that Thorium was a cleaner power source but they stopped researching it. I say burn coal and do the research.

Canada is in a more fortunate position than Japan, it generates most of its energy from Hydro Electricity.
Although it will still allow coal burning power plants, if they use Carbon Capture technology.
Japan should also use Carbon Capture technology, despite a slight loss in efficiency.
The captured carbon is buried deep underground, it is the best that can be done.
