I don't eat bread through the week as I'm a bit of a bloater and trying to lose some weight but I allow myself 2 big fluffy crumpets oozing with butter on a Sunday morning.

2 big fluffy crumpets isn't a euphemism btw Laugh.

Lol, Dan.

There will be some disappointed chit-chatters when they click on this link.

They will probably be expecting another Carol Vorderman thread.

I get thru loads but find em a bit soggy when too fresh. The big ones are nice with fried eggs on top.
Report Kit-Kat-Dan November 12, 2016 4:42 PM GMT
I'm no doubt leaving myself wide open for abuse but, I like them with Marmite & grilled cheese.

Lol, Dan.

I remember crumlets being called pikelets.

Haven't had any for years. I might buy some today.

I always thought pikelets were scotch pancakes.

And you can't beat a nice buttered crumpet with a whisper of marmite on the top.
Report Makybe_Diva November 15, 2016 10:57 PM GMT
I bought some crumpets today. Tesco's own. Also bought some Bonne Maman Rasberry Preserve to go with them.

I have had crumpets, butter and jam for supper Love

I have to say the crumpets were a bit soft even tho' I toasted them. Hellishly difficult to remove from the toaster too.

Also bought some pikelets. My mum used to call crumpets, pikelets Confused

The pikelets don't look like scotch pancakes like someone mentioned. I'm not keen on scotch pancakes.

I haven't tried the pikelets yet. They look like squashed crumpets.

I'm not proud of myself for eating such dreadful unhealthy stodge. I Can't remember the last time I bought a pot of jam.

You lot have led me astray Mischief

Double toasted with thick honey.... a little moorish with coffee
Report DStyle November 16, 2016 2:07 PM GMT
I have researched the pikelet/crumpet issue.

i was mistaken: pikelets are not scotch pancakes as makybe rightly states.

they are essentially the same as a crumpet (same recipe), but a crumpet is cooked in a mould, hence its height, whilst the pikelet isn't, so spreads out.

a pikelet a crumpet for peasants (pikeys?) who can't afford crumpet moulds.
Report SlippyBlue November 16, 2016 4:24 PM GMT
I agree with the double toasted method. Crumpets well done with salted butter, runny poached eggs, Branston baked beans and crispy bacon with a liberal dollop of HP sauce is a very decent breakfast indeed.
