Two men who threw rashers of bacon inside a north London mosque in a racially motivated attack have been jailed for eights months.

Mateusz Pawlikowski, 22, and Piotr Czak-Zukowski, 28, walked into Al-Rahman Mosque in north London as worshippers were getting ready for evening prayer.

Pawlikowski approached one of them, swore at him, and threw a rasher of bacon towards him, continuing to throw further rashers on the floor of the prayer room.
The defendants showed a complete disregard for the faith and belief of others in this callous and highly offensive incident; and I hope their convictions highlight that we will not tolerate hate crime in any of its forms.

I know this incident has had a significant impact on the community and commend the victims for speaking up.

Hate crime is often a hidden crime and it is essential we stand together with policing partners, colleagues and groups to investigate all such allegations, support victims and bring perpetrators to justice.

Mateusz Pawlikowski, 22 (5.10.94) of Wilton Road, N10 and Piotr Czak-Zukowski, 28 (23.7.88) of Sneath Avenue, NW11, both Polish nationals, appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court today, Tuesday 1 November, where they were both sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for criminal damage and eight months' imprisonment for a racial / religious public order offence. The sentences are to run concurrently.

They're clamping down on hate crime thinking that they'll nip it in the bud.

Yet it's an unequal exercise.

So all they're doing is to kindle hate in people who wouldn't otherwise be concerned, because of the double standards they're setting regarding leniency for some and the heavy hand for others.

Treat everyone the same and it might fizzle out.
Doing it this way is simply stoking it up.

The poppy is a symbol of british imperialist suppression of minorities.  Like the 2 billion muslims etc.
The sickening sycophantic tribalist albert hall celebrations of the conquests of the empire and subjugation of whole tribes of people.
This is what the poppy symbolises as we swept from one country to another.

Report PorcupineorPineapple • November 1, 2016 10:52 PM GMT
I think the symbolism of the poppy has been massively corrupted in recent years from being a pro-active choice to wear one in support to a reactive "how will it look if I'm the only one not wearing one".

That said, everyone should know that the burning of one is disrespectful and is essentially saying you disrespect the lives of the people who died in war, so again f#ck anyone who does that. They know what they're doing and can face the consequences.

Not answering for PP, but I have a view.....

I think it is totally unacceptable and should be the subject of a custodial sentence.  From a legal point of view though, these "poppy burning" offences were treated as "just" "public order" offences, and not racially or religiously motivated acts. From the legislation, and for right or wrong, they were regarded as legitimate public protest that stepped over the line into a public order offence.   I don't agree with it but then I don't make the law.

hurting peoples feelings shouldn't be a crime, so burning a poppy shouldn't be a criminal offence.

of course, you would have to compare this action and its policing with what would happen if someone dared launch a tirade against Mohammad or Allah outside a mosque before Friday prayers.

Two men, described as wearing dark coloured uniforms, allegedly entered the Al Rahman Mosque and Community Centre in Crowndale Road on Sunday night and began placing pieces of pork – which is considered “haram” or forbidden in the Islamic faith – inside shoes left on a rack near the entrance.

When confronted, the two men, who were both described as white, with short hair and beards, threw pieces of meat towards worshippers.

Helal Ahmed, who was praying at the mosque when the attack took place at around 7:30pm, told the New Journal: “Two people came inside, both were acting strange. I saw one person was filming, but I didn't see what they were doing at this point.

“What they were wearing looked like police [uniforms], I thought they were police at first. They had black trousers and black jackets, like the heavy coats that police wear in winter.

“When he saw me he threw a piece of pork meat, but luckily it dropped one-and-a-half feet [in front of me].”

The men fled the scene without saying a word, Mr Ahmed said, adding: “They opened the door and went. I switched on all the lights to see what happened. I looked at my shoe and they put some pieces of pork meat in another brother's shoe. But he left it, I gave him a spare sandal. He can't use that shoe, it's not halal.”

Describing his reaction to the attack, which another member of the mosque described as a “disgusting and heinous attack on a peaceful place”, Mr Ahmed said: “I couldn't accept it. My throat is dry. I can't even explain it. It's kind of senseless.”

Zahid Hussain, prosecuting, said: "This is an unusual and unique case . Both these defendants originally come from Poland.

"In a civilised Western democratic nation, one is entitled to express their opinion and also to benefit from freedom of speech.

But there are boundaries which we need to all comply with and live inside those.

"Sadly, these two men in this case have breached these boundaries. This is hate crime at the very top level. It is Islamophobia.

"These two were completely and utterly drunk. They entered a mosque, which they are prohibited from doing while drunk.

"Not only have they entered, they then insulted worshippers just before evening prayers.

"They have with them rashers of bacon which they throw on the floor in a holy place of worship.

People these days are looking for the slightest hint of something that they can pin on the migratns and muslims. If you said a man with a beard rammedhis car into a dog, there'll be people telling you how muslims are told by their religion to kill dogs and how the bearded man would be a hero for muslims when in fact he'd just be a drunken brit who had too much on the night out.

Brexit is a great example. If there was no refugee crisis, people wouldn't even have bothered to vote. As it turns out, the exit camp used the muslims to get the votes. My guess is its not too far before these same people will be happily paying a 'protection from muslims' tax :D

Report Dr Crippen • November 2, 2016 11:53 AM GMT
The sad part for most Muslims, is that it's they who will suffer the backlash and antagonism from people over sentences like these.

Yet it's the courts who are really stirring up racial trouble, by handing out disproportional sentences to people, for simply hurting the feelings of followers of this backward religion.
