Two men who threw rashers of bacon inside a north London mosque in a racially motivated attack have been jailed for eights months.

Mateusz Pawlikowski, 22, and Piotr Czak-Zukowski, 28, walked into Al-Rahman Mosque in north London as worshippers were getting ready for evening prayer.

Pawlikowski approached one of them, swore at him, and threw a rasher of bacon towards him, continuing to throw further rashers on the floor of the prayer room.
The defendants showed a complete disregard for the faith and belief of others in this callous and highly offensive incident; and I hope their convictions highlight that we will not tolerate hate crime in any of its forms.

I know this incident has had a significant impact on the community and commend the victims for speaking up.

Hate crime is often a hidden crime and it is essential we stand together with policing partners, colleagues and groups to investigate all such allegations, support victims and bring perpetrators to justice.

Seems incredible that you can get a jail sentence for a childish prank where no damage was done and no one was hurt.

Not quite Twizzle, or perhaps Ron is being economical with the truth....  Take your pick.

Mateusz Pawlikowski, 22 (5.10.94) of Wilton Road, N10 and Piotr Czak-Zukowski, 28 (23.7.88) of Sneath Avenue, NW11, both Polish nationals, appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court today, Tuesday 1 November, where they were both sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for criminal damage and eight months' imprisonment for a racial / religious public order offence. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Twizzle - I got it!!, I even got the lean backWink - I make my own bacon though so I may be a receptive audience.

My point was that these two guys were not just charged with throwing rashers about but with "criminal damage" which may explain the sentence.  I apologise for introducing missing facts to ron's original postWink.

Piotr Czak-Zukowski, 28, and Mateusz Pawlikowski, 21, also threw rashers at the shoe rack of the Al-Rahman Mosque in Camden, and a piece landed inside a shoe.

They're clamping down on hate crime thinking that they'll nip it in the bud.

Yet it's an unequal exercise.

So all they're doing is to kindle hate in people who wouldn't otherwise be concerned, because of the double standards they're setting regarding leniency for some and the heavy hand for others.

Treat everyone the same and it might fizzle out.
Doing it this way is simply stoking it up.

Ron - I am struggling with "im sure it wasnt nothing to bad" For me, I have no idea whether it was anything too "bad" either. I was merely quoting the Met Police report of the offence and sentence.

When people see others being jailed for something as trivial as this. All it does is to harden their attitude towards Muslims.

That is not what the authorities are trying to do, but is certainly the result.

Ron - the Mirror report seems to support the Met Police report - "both admitted religiously aggravated criminal damage and religiously aggravated harassment".

You say "and a piece landed inside a shoe. not inside the shoe Cry thats obviously the criminal damage Grin

This makes little sense, but whatever you seem to be guessing at what exactly represented the "criminal damage" I have no idea, but more importantly neither it seems do you.

Possession of a knife can carry a prison sentence of up to 4 years even if it's not used

Not sure how accurate the above is, but wouldn't have thought the sentence would
be much different had they replaced that bacon with knifes and not used them?

They're idiots. They chose to throw pork, not lamb. They knew exactly what they were doing and wanted to get a reaction. Well, they got one. Dickheads. Maybe spend your bird thinking of doing something constructive with your life rather than trying to just upset someone eh.
