quite a lot. good company (which for some may mean no company) and no driving rain and it's a great way to spend a week or a day or an afternoon.

the big walks can get too overcrowded in summer; on the other hand you can be completely alone in winter. remember going up to red tarn (at the bottom of the summit of Helvellyn) in early January. Completely empty, compared to the queues over striding edge in summer.

i'm giving up all exertion. Jim Fixx died jogging. i was walking two miles a day but new advice says strong exertion causing a sweat, causes mineral depletion. You need to replace minerals more often.
My uncle used to Hike all over Scotland, had a heart attack a couple of years ago. thin and fit looking. He still works hard in a physical way.
I'm cultivating my COWARD genes. more bed rest and I might take up drinking.

The Black Cuillins are the backdrop to this supposedly magical place.
Called The Fairy Pools. Fairy as in Elves etc before Crisp has a go.

Plenty of hotels as well. I've stayed in the Broadford, the Portree and the Uig.
Been some time but you can google obviously for standards.

the chemical reactions in my brain found those images to be most pleasant. your input is most welcome. My future gene pool will be more complete and my ancestors will benefit from my seeing such imagery.

Hi scandanavian_haven,I'd agree that 5th pic does look like it's been photoshopped but it doesn't matter to me because i'd already made my mind up after seeing pics 3 and 4 that I would visit this incredibly beautiful place very soon.I've never been to Scotland before but what an amazing first place to go to to break my duck.

I would very much doubt that the OP has walked any further than to his offy for a bottle of cheap cider.

Yes that last photo isn't "right". Long enough exposure to make the water a flow but it's totally stinking of HDR.
It can be a nice effect but not what the eye sees. It's not just photoshop though, cameras can have HDR now as a feature.

Google images for HDR you'll see what I mean. It's like .. it takes the colours and saturates them to the extremes.

I left Liverpool on Sat at about 3.30pm,returned this afternoon at 12.It was a long, long weekend.Because of the cold and also not being used to sleeping in a tent, over the 2 nights i barely slept. The hike itself took almost 5 hours, with no breaks at all apart from one for 10 mins in which i eat some cheese (babybell) and swigged down some red wine.(Hardys shiraz).I took lots of pics on the hike and I'll post a few here later..To sum up the experience in just one word...FANTASTIC !

"I would very much doubt that the OP has walked any further than his offy for a bottle of cheap cider"...Actually crags that's almost true because up until quite recently,4 months or so ago, cheap cider was my drink of choice (3 Hammers). The reason I drank that muck was because at that time i suffered from social anxiety and for days on end I would be afraid to  leave the house. If I had to leave the house to sign on,etc then 3 Hammers would help me on my way.I don't drink it anymore.

To reinforce akabula's advice, I have walked extensively in Scotland and this walk in Skye is my favourite:

http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/sligachan-elgol.shtml

When you do there and back (20ish miles), a pint in the Sligachan Hotel is magical.
