LOSW usually associated with Holmfirth, which is also the home of the Cragrats Theatre.

Many Kate Bush fans have get to-gethers in Holmfirth as well, because of its association with the Brontes, and in particular Emily Bronte author of Wuthering Heights.

If I was to write that again.. I'd probably write 'get-togethers'

I wouldn't call myself a hiker but have been on several "long walks" - recommend the Tissington Trail in the Peak District (and have also been for a long walk around Carsington Water)

I visit Haworth Cat Rescue Centre quite regularly. Quite a hike back up the hill, as it is situated way below the main road.

Hi David F M Sales,The hike/walk I'll be taking on will be around 12 miles or so.I would guess that's a bit of a  walk in the park for an experienced hiker but it won't be for me.Not been for a long time but the peak district is a wonderful place.

Haworth is also the usual place for KB fans to meet, and not Holmfirth, though the latter is still regarded as Bronte Country.

Holmfirth no real Bronte connection as far as I know, quite a distance from Haworth. Culvin, Marsden is quite unspectacular, but once you top either side of the valley it is fine country.

Done some hiking. Scotland is the best place to do it in Britian imo because in addition to the great scenery you can legally camp on any unenclosed private land as long as you follow the outdoor code (basically don't be a count). The only problem is the weather is likely to be ****. I would like to do the Hadrian wall walk some time though and maybe the Penines way.

Did The Lyke Wake Walk many years ago.

Jimmy Savile was doing it at the same time but in the opposite direction, as it happens.

Hi shrewd_ dude, When I arrive in Huddersfield on Saturday night I'll have my tent with me and I'll be looking to then camp in the nearest field that i can find.I'll make my way to Marsden on Sunday morning to meet 8 or 9 other hikers who I am joining on the hike.I think I'd definitely agree with you about Scotland being the best place in Britain to hike because of the incredible beauty that can be found there and also the freedom to camp almost anywhere,as you say.
