I lost a big hand again tonight because of it. I don't play for much but even so it is annoying. Can anyone help?|
By:
do you really have big hands if it's for small stakes?

By:
and do you have really big hands?
|
|
By:
I have little hands
![]() It can be a big hand because I play tournaments, so you can win hundreds of dollars. Not much but it is interesting. |
|
By:
I'm no expert but had similar issues before when playing. if you haven't already, could try powering off/on the router at 7.55 as that has worked for me in the past. leave it off for a minute before turning on again.

id look what the download speed is when connected,
if it's very low its probably a bt engineer job..check below http://www.speedtest.net/ obviously worth trying the above post first |
|
By:
I had a similar problem, im with bt and went on their website which tested the line and said it was faulty, they raised a job and fixed in a couple of weeks.
|

Is it really that interesting .. feel you could make that on webcams but just the same lost connection would be Key .. ethernet's so old school .. you need to go Wireless

i suffered similar for 6 months a few years back, was getting like
0.24 meg which i think is the lowest starting point for broadband when it re-connects. was a faulty plug/wire coming from outside, bt engineer fixed & touch wood been 100% fine since |
|
By:
yes id guess not many people have ethernet now days

Has anyone tried powerline ethernet adaptors? You plug your router via ethernet into a plug, the have other plugs in the house and share the ethernet via the mains. The point of ethernet over wireless is better security and higher speed.

Thanks everyone for the advice
I have tried what you said and I hope it does not happen again. If it does I will have to contact BT, but they are the most appalling company to deal with and I know that intermittent faults are one of the hardest faults to correct. Funnily enough I decided mainly on ethernet so it would be more stable! It only has to drop out for minutes for you to lose an important hand at poker. I also do not like the reports about wifi damaging your health. |

annie - since BT upgraded my b/band box - [ethernet connected] never stays on
4 drops this week so far - not had a full week of no drops - 3 new boxes - and cables - and box moved to entry of the house point etc etc still no better ... cant be arséd to phone anymore .. |
|
By:
as a point of note that may help you - [didnt me]
but the box has two frequencies - 2.4 GHz and 5GHz you could try running off the other one to see if that makes a difference - google how to do so .. |

I am on bt and they are awful.
My block of flats is only just over two years old and I have had my flat from the beginning. So bt had to send an engineer to put it on as there had not been a connection in my flat, although all the points and sockets were there. You would think that with a new block of flats and a new connection that I would have no problems at all ![]() |

By:
Thanks, Delta, I will google it

Some of the BT routers had a fault, kept dropping the connection is it the home hub 5
|
|
By:
annie - 'they say' - that the 2.5 can get interference from neighbours etc -
the 5.0 is meant to be more stable! |

Annie just cancel & get Sky Wifi
I'm in a block & when check connections most are on BT (all medium strength) & Talk Talk (also BT rubbish) I've 18 tabled for years on end & only ever remember 2 drop outs(though not playing as much now) also great for video etc. I use all day every day & never a lost connection I don't promote sky (tv is a rip off but they do sweet deals for new customers) but their Wifi is excellent , do agree it's not healthy , personally think it's by design to move us into another level of consciousness , but that's a far too complex subject for chit chat ![]() |

By:
Jayco, I think it is the home hub 4 as it is just the ordinary broadband not the fast one.
Delta, one interesting thing is that when the engineer came I queried him about why I could not get 'public' bt easily here. He said it was because that in new flats the insulation was much greater and they lined the walls so that wifi did not easily transmit. Or words to that effect as I am a tech baby. Moonbeam, I remember when I was living with a friend years ago and he had sky and I only remember the odd disconnection but that was just an area fault I think, not like now. I also had virgin before that and used to play poker without this hassle. It did have the odd problem but again it was usually an area fault. Funnily enough I wish it was an total disconnection rather than going off for a few minutes and then coming back on again. It would cost me less money and save my sanity ![]() |

could e a few reasons.
poor wiring in your home. bt upgrading their network along the line and having to turn something off locally. interferance (could be linked to poor wiring) doubt its a wifi problem if the light changed...usually means your pppoe or other method conenction has an issue. moonbeam...what if your pc/laptop has a 1 gig thernet card and only has N wifi? that will be max 72mbs ...now if your conenction us 300 download and 300 upload............. |
|
By:
also wifi is open to interference especially is crowded areas..ie a block.
Ethernet can get interference but not with decent cables. they can stop interference. |
|
By:
Annie you dont need to contact BT, just go on their website and test your broadband/line, if you do need to contact BT use the livechat on the website.

Do you have anything else plugged in? Firstly unplug any phone extensions etc. Maybe even the phone. Any wires from your socket can add noise or interference, I know someone that had awful ADSL, they unplugged the wire running to a phone in another part of the house, and got instantly stable good ADSL. Even a crap splitter dongle can make things worse. Then restart the router so it re-connects seeing the new electrics. Does that improve things? Does your computer report a problem on the network icon in the system tray? If it's windows and it's the connection to the router it'll show a nasty error, if it's just the router down it may say something like "limited connectivity".
As others say you can run a line check either via the internet (enter your phone number) or a special phone number, the exchange will look at the connection to your phone and tell you about it. |

Chit chat is brilliant
![]() I followed your advice and my broadband has not had any disconnections today. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay like that. I even won some money to make up for what I lost yesterday and a bit more for my trouble ![]() |

When I said 'your advice' I did mean everyone as I do not know which bit cured it!

probably a stale dynamic ip.
rebooting or setting a reboot frequently (every night) might be a good idea....but not if your on the poker table . bt probably handed you a shared ip too which is very cheapskatish of them ...shambles of a company |
|
By:
Change over to Virgin Media if you have it in your street. Very fast, very reliable, which is what you'd expect I suppose from a true fibre optic broadband connection.

Have you recently upgraded to Windows 10?

got wi fi fine in all rooms bar 1 bedroom got a booster from bt in there still no better ?

How are the cards running for you Annie?
I'm having a disaster. |
|
By:
I am a bit down over the last 4 months, but as I have had so much trouble with the internet and my old computer I put it down to that
Still the way I look at it I probably am even moneywise as it stops me drinking! |

Couple strange comments in this thread btw, ethernet is, if it's not a laptop or whatever, far better than wifi. It's not old fashioned, it's BETTER. Faster, more stable etc. They don't use wifi to connect the servers at betfair, that'll be for sure.
Annie does the weather affect it the connection? Like on a wet rainy day it's worse? As I said earlier in my experience both mine and people I know, it's often other crud attached to the phone line causing noise and quality issues. There is a BT little adapter box you can put on older phone line boxes to help :NTE5 that I think helped me and someone else I know. BTW if your internet goes down, can you reconnect to the poker server and continue or is that it once you are seen to lose connection? If that is the case there are solutions really. If your computer supports wifi (if not get a USB wifi dongle for a few quid!) then keep phone to hand and know how to quickly enable it as a hotspot, then wifi onto it. Might take a couple minutes but you can pretty quickly get back on the net. Or maybe even if a lot of money in play just enable the phone as a hotspot and dont connect until needed. If it's worth it and reconnect is allowed, then you can get routers that can do 3g backup but maybe that's not worth it. |
|
By:
BTW if not familiar with term, hotspot means (and this is good if youv'e a data allowance on phone) you flip your phone into acting as a wifi router. Then you can connect your computer/laptop etc through your phone via wifi onto the net. I've done it a few times when needed, but depends on data costs. IT's slower but gets the job done.
