It has cost a lot of money an gone a long way.....for no result.
We lost Beagle 2 I remember.
Are we sure there are no Martians, are they knocking our landers out of the Martian sky as they attempt to land?

the latest is that they intend to send a Range Rover to mars in the year 2020 and this was a small test . they did not say how much the small test that got lost has cost them but they are still hopeful of contact even though they never expected contact with earth ,and they have a mother ship orbiting Mars and the probe may contact it.

If this was a small test for a larger 2020 rover, it has failed
tbf this is not easy, but I think we need better monitoring and observation of these rovers as they land.

NASA has suggested that SpaceX is spending around $300 million on its Red Dragon Mars lander mission, according to Space News.
Awful lot of mars bars to lose

It would be vastly more expensive to send a manned mission to Mars to do this.
Although the advantage of humans aboard, is they may have been able to fix what had gone wrong.
Much harder to do this with robotic computer control. Any number of things could have failed.
Even though this is cheaper, if it fails it is a complete waste.
I hope they something out of this mission.

its not too long ago that they smashed the rosetta probe into a comet because it went to sleep. And they also have a few rovers on mars to have broken down that cost millions. And I think there is another probe on its way to the sun that will send back pictures before it crashes into it. why don't they just turn hubble towards it and take a few close up photo's and save the millions.
