They did look great, but anyone who has experienced driving them has to admit they were unreliable sheds for the most part. No air con heaters were an accessory, power steering/brakes forget it. Rusting body panels, quarter light windows and cheap locks gave every car thief a head start.

2) wind tunnels (and computer simulations) for aerodynamics for performance and fuel economy leads to similar shapes
3) common parts shared between models
4) colours -- for the most part buyers go for silver or white, and there is certainly not the range of yellows, oranges and browns they used to have

since then. Burton-Brewers 15 Oct 16 12:43 I have noticed that Ford seem to have borrowed the front grille design/shape off Aston Martin
Maybe that's because when they started being designed Ford owned Aston Martin (they are still heavily involved in the supply chain)
Ramrura summed it up. Costs £100million+ for a major player to produce and market a new model. The boardroom is just going to go with whatever the designers and focus groups say will sell

Agree that most new cars look awful. They are "over-designed" nowadays because people want their new car to look different from the older model. The result is a rash of more and more bloated and bulbous shapes that not only look homogeneous and boring, but are far too big (although this has something to do with safety features)for modern driving conditions.

Absolutely BB as I made the same comment some time ago!
Give them another couple of new models, and the "Mondeo" will morph into a "Vanquish"!
