aren't they just awful ? They all look the same !! Individuality appears to have gone,

If you look back to the 60,s 70,s and less the 80's there was a wide range of really original designs to choose from.

What happened to move us to the boring all the same era we know live inSad

I remember some of the cars my dad used to have , singer vogue, Wolsey, cortina mk2, sunbeam rapier etc they used to look great!!!

Fiat 500 looks lovely imo. I am not allowed one as its a "girl's car".

They did look great, but anyone who has experienced driving them has to admit they were unreliable sheds for the most part. No air con heaters were an accessory, power steering/brakes forget it. Rusting body panels, quarter light windows and cheap locks gave every car thief a head start.

Yes well it was 30 40 50 years ago. Quite a few advancements in technology since then.

I have noticed that Ford seem to have borrowed the front grille design/shape off Aston Martin.

Personally not so keen on the new Fiat 500s but do love the original ones. HappyHappyHappy

Reasons they all look the same:

1) they don't really

2) wind tunnels (and computer simulations) for aerodynamics for performance and fuel economy leads to similar shapes

3) common parts shared between models

4) colours -- for the most part buyers go for silver or white, and there is certainly not the range of yellows, oranges and browns they used to have

I think Ford Hyundai Toyota Kia etc definitely have some strong similarities in appearance. Makes pre 80s definitely had more distinctive styles.

Echobelly, you can find the gears on the new 500 and I think the new design is beautifully simplistic. (not those stretchy ones tho)

Maybe that's because when they started being designed Ford owned Aston Martin (they are still heavily involved in the supply chain)

Ramrura summed it up. Costs £100million+ for a major player to produce and market a new model. The boardroom is just going to go with whatever the designers and focus groups say will sell

Agree that most new cars look awful. They are "over-designed" nowadays because people want their new car to look different from the older model. The result is a rash of more and more bloated and bulbous shapes that not only look homogeneous and boring, but are far too big (although this has something to do with safety features)for modern driving conditions.

Bentley now looks really ugly imo compared to some of the older Bentleys
Report Burton-Brewers October 15, 2016 5:36 PM BST
the Mulsanne is still stunning but I don't like the new 4x4, I think the new Rollers are hideous also.

Most modern Cars ...just consumer durables !
Golden age of Cars ...70s and 80s ?

Absolutely BB as I made the same comment some time ago!

Give them another couple of new models, and the "Mondeo" will morph into a "Vanquish"!
