I fear they know their utopia will never come about, but like Merkel they will take a long time to admit it, meanwhile the rhetoric will continue until they can think of a way to climb down.
You know
Back in the day it was "uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, those dudes from the tribe 10 metres from here are horrible. They're savages, will not integrate and are stupid" (maybe not quite in those words)
Then that same thing applied to people from a neighbouring town, state, country, continent, you name it.
The Irish catholics in the USA faced heavy discrimination (actually it was the same with catholics and protestants over here in Europe), were considered drunk and violent thugs that will never ever integrate in the slightest and their women were slutty birth machines that were threatening the protestant majority. The men are still considered drunk thugs, but people don't really hate preach against the irish or catholics in general anymore.
People captured and enslaved other races and ethnicities, sometimes put them into zoo and wandering circus cages.
Then we claimed the money jews are trying to take over the world.
We've come through all that to see that the people from neighbouring tribes aren't actually all that bad and other races maybe should not be put into cages.
It's sad to see that humanity keeps doing the same thing over and over again, but slowly we expand our tolerance and are getting along a bit more each day. Given that we have expanded and learned about each other so much already, is it really that much of a unreachable utopia that one day we'll learn to all..you know....just hug? Why just be negative, give up and say "this will never come true" instead of working towards a good future for the planet? Will not be our generation, might not be our sons', but one day....wouldn't that be neat?

patronising? Described simple human nature that affects everyone.
