A male gorilla has been recaptured after escaping from its enclosure at London Zoo.
The zoo said Kumbuka, a western lowland silverback, had escaped into the secure keepers' area. It added that the gorilla, which arrived from Paignton Zoo in Devon in early 2013, had not escaped into a public area.
A spokesman for the zoo said that at no time were any of its visitors in danger. Police said the incident had now "concluded" after the gorilla was shot with a tranquilliser dart.
They added the gorilla had been seen by other visitors and that it had appeared to be "really angry" and was "banging on the cage". I expect he was...poor thing...thursday tea offering are a bit ropey

When Knowsley Safari park on the outskirts of Liverpool opened the possibility of wild animals escaping was a real concern.
The Safari park management had to give reassurance to local councillors with regards to safety measures that had been put in place.
When questioned over the various wild animals and the safety measures in place, the park manager said:
"We have trained marksmen overlooking all the lions and tigers enclosures with tranquiliser guns. As to the possibility of the Rhinos charging the fence, well all fences are reinforced and all are electrified with enough voltage to stun any animal charging the fence even if all Rhinos where to charge at once! The gorilla's are housed in a reinforced steel cage with an unbreakable glass roof"
Then one of the councillors asked, "What if one of the large male Baboon's climbs up one of those trees and jumps over the electrified fence, and gets into the local population"
The park manager had a little think and replied "Well he will just have to take his chances like the rest of us!"
