I'm taping the series to watch in one go. Don't think it's going to be like Yul's classic though..

I watched the first 15 minutes and switched it off. I have got them on record so I might give it another go in a few weeks.

I know it's been done several times on here already, but has anybody got any hidden gems (boxset wise) that aren't very well known? I either don't fancy a lot of the well known ones, or I've watched some off the older ones.

I tried How To Get Away With Murder recently. I was enjoying it but I never finished the first season.

imo First Wave is the finest science fiction series ever made

I'm not a fan of sci-fi. But thanks for the suggestion, Stow. Cool

If you are not offended by subtitles I can heartily reccomend Braquo ... french cop drama in the style of the "The Sweeney" but played straight

I can't do subtitles. Cry

But thank you. Laugh

Shame you don't do subtitles as Gomorrah is best thing on the boxsets by a mile (Italian Mafia)

Watched the first episode and it was a bit slow to start. I'm sure it will get better.

Boxsets I've enjoyed although you may have seen some of them;

Wayward Pines
The Night of
Fargo (series 1)
Last Man on Earth
Walking Dead
Breaking Bad

Others that were OK so I completed the set.
Extant
The Man in the High Castle (heard the book is so much better)
Under the Dome
The Returned (because I read the book on holiday)

Everything else I've just watched 1 or 2 episodes and then given up.

I don't mind reading books, but watching a subtitled TV programme isn't for me. I did give the French version of The Returned a few episodes when that was on TV a few years back.

I watched The Night Of a few weeks ago, that was pretty good. I've tried and gave up on your choices from your first list, Ovalman. I will google the other ones because I've not heard of a couple of them.

I would highly recommend "Westworld". I Wasn't sure I would like it, but the 1st episode blew me away! The part where Dolores' "father" goes off-script and starts quoting King Lear is truly chilling! Technically it is brilliantly done, the cinematography is superb. I don't usually get sucked in to latest "must-see" shows (e.g. The much hyped "The Night of" was a big let down for me) But this was very promising indeed!

Wayward Pines has a twist but it isn't revealed for quite a few episodes, I enjoyed it.
Last Man on Earth is a comedy, 20 minutes long so good for a quick watch.

I like futuristic, apocalyptical and time travelling type series so if anyone has any suggestions.

Another couple

Life on Mars, BBC from around 10 years ago.
Twelve Monkeys (got a bit hard to keep up in the end)

11.22.63 Assassination of Kennedy with an alternative history. I liked it but it left more questions than answers.

I watch most of these in the lead up to sleep so I don't always remember everything.

Most of these box set series start off very well but run out of steam quickly, usually long before the end of season 1. I've lost count of how many I've started watching only to get thoroughly p1ssed off with them after a couple of episodes. Under the Dome, How to Get Away with Murder, Wayward Pines, all classic examples.

11.22.63 was very good, tho. Probably because it didn't have too many episodes.
And I really enjoyed Flash Forward. That's one that actually deserved a second season but never materialised.

I'll check that out Platini, I seem to recall it was shown on Channel 4? I watched the first episode but never watched it again. I'll give it another try now I've the Firestick.

I've another few I've watched but can't remember, I generally binge watch 2 or 3 episodes per night.

Agree Gomorrah is very good, i dont mind subtitles as it makes you watch it properly and not pick up the phone or browse the net.

The Killing
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Gomorrah
The Bridge

The Sopranos

The tip two for me

Gonna give Westworld and Narcos a go ...

The Killing (Danish version) when shown on BBC4 was actually the first boxset I actually got through.

I've watched a few others, Jericho post Nuclear War was OK but just like the Walking Dead, they didn't seem to suffer that much.

Narcos was great, but by far the best two for me are 24 and Breaking Bad, because 24 started back in 2001 it gets overlooked now but the first 5 seasons were the best ever until Breaking Bad came along...24 season 1 does start off slow and you have to stick with it but later on it has the most brilliant plot twists and thrills and takes you places current shows would not dare, Muslim extremist shot dead in a mosque? check....homegrown Muslims letting nukes off in the Usa? check...of course the bad guys would just be Russian now lol.

Recent films nicked entire plot seasons of 24, ie Taken, White House Down and more....

It's a shame that you won't watch series with subtitles as the previously mentioned Braquo and Gomorrah are both very good - the Legacy is another good one but completely different to the first two named.

There are some great series available to watch. Both series of Fargo are brilliant - if you like that sort of thing another program in a similar "off the wall" vein is Bates Motel.

One of my favourite programs of all time is Oz - It was the first proper series made by HBO and is also brilliant.

Others that I would recommend are:

Sons of Anarchy
The Americans
Ray Donovan
Billions

Gin's suggestions are all excellent - Sons of Anarchy is double excellent.

If this thread proves anything, it's that if you want good tv drama, you've got to go either American or Scandinavian. We've just finished watching Beck, which was also very good.

I watched the first season of Sons Of Anarchy and thought it was great. I don't know why I never carried on with it.

I've just downloaded the first couple of episodes of Billions. I think I'll give that a go tonight. BTW, my missus has watched the four listed progs by Gin, and she says I'd enjoy them. I watched the first episode of Oz a couple of months ago and thought it had probably aged badly.

Thank you everyone. Cool

Try "line of duty" if you get a chance. Think there is 3 series. Excellent from start to finish.
