Surely it is Russia who is sabre-rattling but the audience is not the United States, who can destroy Russia several times before breakfast. Rather, it is the ex-Soviet republics, and the domestic audience -- the Russian population who need to be distracted from the worsening economy.

The MSM tells us what we are supposed to believe.
Most of what we believe in we have been fed. It is often difficult to know what is true or not. My own opinion is Putin stands up for Russian interests and has no designs on the West. I cannot see how with Russia would help anyone? So I agree with the OP |

I wonder how the US would react if Russia installed missile systems across the border in Mexico. |

People are saying that's exactly what the US want , so you wouldn't be surprised
to see attacks? I don't think id fancy being the guinea pig to go up to see if Russia follows the warning through though! |

Kerry couldn't get through Congress attacks against the Syrian regime hence Russia giving it the big one.
"I think you're looking at three people, four people in the administration. I lost the argument. I've argued for the use of force. I'm the guy who stood up and announced that we're going to attack Assad for the use of weapons," Kerry is heard telling the Syrian attendees, referring to internal deliberations within the administration of President Barack Obama that followed Assad's use of chemical weapons in 2013. Kerry also faulted Congress for failing to support such a retaliatory strike, saying, "The bottom line is that Congress refused even to vote to allow that." "We have a Congress that will not authorize our use of force," he added, explaining that a new military intervention would be difficult to bring about. The discussion in the recording occurred only days after the United States and Russia announced a ceasefire agreement in Geneva, an accord that has since collapsed with reports of regime bombing attacks and the positioning of some 10,000 Syrian regime-aligned troops preparing to advance on Aleppo. The recorded conversation contains a series of revelations about Kerry's view of the ongoing civil war in Syria. Several of the meeting's participants have confirmed the recording's authenticity. The Syrian civilians repeatedly questioned Kerry about violations of the ceasefire and America's unwillingness to enforce the agreement more strongly, and lobbied for a bigger US role. Kerry cited legal restrictions and local air defenses as reasons why a US military intervention was not feasible. "The problem is the Russians don't care about international law and we do. And we don't have a basis, our lawyers tell us, unless we have a Security Council resolution," he said. "They were invited in, we were not," he added, referring to Moscow's military operations in Syria. "We don't behave like Russians. It's just a different standard," Kerry said. "The only reason they are letting us fly is because we are going after ISIL," Kerry said, using another term for ISIS. "If we were going after Assad, we would have to take out all the air defenses and we don't have a legal justification for doing that." Kerry added, "So far, American legal theory does not buy into the so-called right to protect." "Nobody (is) more frustrated than me," Kerry told the gathering. Acknowledging that Russia's military actions have "changed the equation" and made removing Assad more difficult, Kerry suggested that Syrian refugees could one day help eject Assad if given the right to vote. |

There is great doubt as to who used those Chemical weapons, it could have been Assad, it could have been the rebels, nobody knows? "We don't behave like Russians. It's just a different standard," Kerry said. Exactly who lied over Saddam having WMD's?...it was the US not Russia. I think most of the problems have been caused by the US and West interference in the Middle East since the first Gulf War. All Putin is doing is copying us. It is in Russia's interest to keep Assad in power. None this is particularly edifying. There are more Sunni Muslims in Syria than Shia so of course Kerry calls for democracy. Assad knows this and won't allow it My suggestion remains a permanent truce, to divide Syria. Seems to me the only practical option. |

Surprised Kerry repeated this, i remember when Putin said it and since then I cant see any point in the USA being there. |

They have forgotten what the existing arsenal of nuclear weapons can do. We - the immediate post-war generation - remembered the melted eyeballs, flayed bodies and rotting cancers of the 'lucky' ones of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (relatively 'harmless' bombs compared to current warheads). Many nutters with their fingers on the ever-increasing nuclear triggers have no concept of consequences. Think Pakistan/India - only a matter of time.

Can't wait until Hilary gets in and sorts them out. The hacking stuff is massively over stepping the line. Hopefully more sanctions for their war crimes too.
The US would laugh at Russia in any military conflict. Keep crushing them financially. |

Russia's GDP is down to 2 trillion. The US controls world oil now. There isn't much Russia or the entire Middle East can do about anything other than go completely broke. Russia doesn't have the money for war and they aren't going to use nukes.
These are energy exporter nations that had their markets taken our from under them by US shale oil and global economics. The US now has 4 times more oil than Saudi Arabia and has matches their production, we can easily scale up from here also. Putin is desperately trying to influence the US election because realistically Russia is too poor to do much else. He was a idiot to move into Ukarine and Syria. All that did it create a legit reason to sanction Russia, break up eastern oil markets and give the US the perfect opportunity to become a major oil exporter. We probably won't bother since selling oil cheap makes no sense :) only idiots would sell oil cheap and then create a shortage of it in their own nations.. only realize the world largest oil consumer happened to have the worlds largest oil reserves in shale. We got the lions share of cheap oil for any one nation AND then we realize through technology and geology that we have 1-4 trillion barrels of oil RIGHT here. Beside need some minor job recovery the US is in the strongest position it has ever been due to these new reserves. We can ignore foreign oil entirely if we want OR we can flood the markets with oil and perhaps become the main supplier of Europe. We could even build a gas pipline there if we want. Russia was extremely foolish to give the US this opportunity right as the US went into full swing in hydro fracking output. We both have more than enough nukes to destroy the world still, so their threats are nothing new. They are the ones who have no idea how to get their economy back and I'd say they are the US mercy when it comes to oil prices. The US could supply Europe from one side, China from the other and Africa and South America. Russia does not have good access to the world. China will ultimately stay loyal to Europe and America because that's where the money and technology is. Russia needs to get rid of Putin and move on to a more level headed leader. Putin has run his course and it's time for fresh leadership. Their GDP at 2 trillion is below many nations we don't think of as world powers. For all that land Russia sure has always had a crap economy, it's too bad, they are a smart people with a huge landmass full of resources. War is the LAST thing they should want or need. Like China and the Middle East the easy way to get your GDP up is to let American corporations come in and teach you how to properly exploit resources and build infrastructure. They had plenty of time now to make some big moves since the fall of the USSR and they've done very little with a lot of potential. They've kept pace with US growth at a much lower scale of course, but they are in essence a developing nation and their growth should be several times higher than the US, like China's growth has been, but of course not that good. |

Russia or any country are not obligated to the United States? I for one, do want a World dominated by the United States, I think they are obsessed by greed and sex. Russia would do well to work with China. |
