not normally a lover of American comedy but this is seriously funny and should be on primetime instead of this god awful hour.

The title is seriously misleading, absolute and utter tripe. Then again I never did get American "comedy".

The series ran from 1996 - 2005. Some of the cast are now deceased. Great series and often repeated on Comedy channels. The whole lot is on youtube where you can watch from the first episode. Some seriously funny episodes. Can't imagine many people who wouldn't find it funny, but there's always one.

I got up early one morning and came by this purely by chance on ch 4 - theres virtually a laugh every line, the old couple who I presume are dead now are brilliant, it takes a funny series to make me laugh at 8 in a morning but this does - cant believe it isn't more popular and well known as Cheers.

Like most USA sit-coms they ran it for far too long. You can only write an episode telling the same joke so many different ways until it becomes a parody of itself. Cheers and Frasier were both guilty of this.

The guy who played the father (and Frankenstein) was an extremely good friend of the The Beatles (and their err habits) A bit of nonsense ye might not have known..

Channel 4 has played it on a loop for decades.

Lee Mack said it was his inspiration for Not Going Out, fwiw.

Both grandparents have passed away and sadly Sawyer Sweeten who played Geoffrey one of the twins, committed suicide aged only 19 yrs in 2015.

I don't think it went on too long, the later series are every bit as good as the earlier ones. Adding 'Hank 'n Pat' as Robert's parents-in-law was a really good addition. Imo they never jumped the shark.

We had a thread like this recently and as someone pointed out in it, no way could Ray be any kind of a writer, but it's still good to watch.

Loved it -sharp scripting and the casting was spot on...the plots exploited so many of the common human foibles.

2 episodes on ch 4 at 8 in the morning....I,ll set the alarm !

On the recommendation of Chit Chat I gave it a go for one episode.  Can't get past the woeful lead character.  If you're a comedy actor then being neither funny nor able to act is a bit limiting
