You would not say Clare Grogan if you actually met her akabula, a 5 star "don't you know who I am merchant". She was on the same flight as me one morning and wanted to bump someone off of a first class seat when she was booked economy. All the passengers were laughing at her when the steward told her to sit down in her allocated seat, it was hilarious.Laugh A complete and utter wrongun mate.

Steve Marriott
Kenneth Williams
Peter Ustinov

all told wonderful stories in their own way. Whether they'd get on is another matter.
Report Reynard September 18, 2016 10:41 PM BST
Steve Marriott - great call. One of the greatest possibly most unsung rock guitarists . Should be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Jimmy Page , Richie Blackmore , Eric Clapton , Carlos Santana and Hendrix , yet rarely is .
Back in the 90's when I lived in rural Essex Mrs Reynard and myself often visited a picturesque pub called The Axe And Compasses in Arkesden just accross the road from Steve Marriott's cottage . One evening we arrived in the village and saw a blue tarpaulin over the thatched roof of the cottage and assumed there had been a fire but not having heard the news we thought nothing of it only to discover when we got home that he had died . I understood that his body was found in the wardrobe which in his confused state he had mistaken for the bedroom door !
Report kenny mann September 18, 2016 11:31 PM BST
That was a great shame, Reynard. He'd got back to playing small venues and seemed to be really enjoying himself, although apparently he was pretty penniless towards the end. Insisted on cash in hand at the gigs. Supebly talented man, with a better voice than Plant, who he wasn't happy with for copying his interpretation of Whole Lotta Love, a reincarnation of an early 50s Muddy Waters song.

This chat is well worth a listen.

Kenny mann - apparently that video does not exist Sad
Another who told stories in his own way , and still does , is Billy Connelly who along with Ustinov and Williams was one of the main reasons for tuning in to Parkinson on a saturday night straight after MOTD .
However , I'm not sure about Marriott having a better voice than Plant (nobody , in my opinion , has or had a better voice than Plant). I didn't know that he plagiarised Steve Marriott's vocal on Whole Lotta Love . Maybe we should invite Marriott , Plant and Muddy Waters to dinner to discuss the matter over a glass or two of Bourbon and a couple of lines Mischief
Report kenny mann September 18, 2016 11:50 PM BST
That would be great, I'd even settle to be  afly on the wall.

The video must exist, I'm listening to it now. Let me try again. It's in 7 parts, 30 mins in total.

Darlington 1 City 3 (9th May 1969)

Division Four

The equation for both Darlington and City, going into this final match of the season, was simple: win and they would be promoted from Division Four, lose and they miss out. Darlington took the lead, the game was delayed for 10 minutes as a wall collapsed in the away end, and then Bobby Ham, Bruce Bannister and an own goal gave City the priceless victory – a first promotion for 40 years.

Steve Marriott's Packet of Three + interview

The interview with Steve Marriott + the full gig at the Camden Palace in 1985.....just turn up your amp and enjoy....

Probably the best live concert featuring the late great Steve Marriott. Apart from his voice it shows what an accomplished guitar player he was.

Fabulous stuff , kenny . A most sincere thank you for that link you sent m8 . What would we do without You Tube to access classic archive material ? Wasn't Phil Collins in the same production of 'Oliver' as another child protege ?
Didn't know that the Small Faces were formed in the Ruskin Arms in Manor Park East London tho ! We used to go there most friday nights to see a band who used to play a weekly set in the back room . You've probably heard of them cos they became pretty big . They called themselves Iron Maiden lol . They got a few tours supporting Judas Priest and the like so we used to roll up at the Hammersmith Odeon mainly to see them rather than the headline act . Quite a few other bands used to play at the Ruskin and released their music under the guise of The Soundhouse ! Some great names among them including Saxon and the wonderfully named Ethel The Frog !

Interesting Reynard. Glad you enjoyed the link. One to play regularly me-thinks.
