It's frightening the pygmies that represent the people nowadays.
By:
Mind you, Sky's own political correspondent, Beth Rigby, is no better. She has terrible enunciation, doesn't pronounce her Gs at all on gerunds and present participles.
By:
very attractive

By:
ditto 4 beth

Capt proving that we get what we deserve.
A smashing use of the word 'gerund' PM. A pleasing word. |
By:
hardly surprising when she's probably 10th choice to fill the position
By:
And she will probably resign in the morning anyway.
By:
Thank you, Jed.
For any leader considering the appointment of education secretary (or its shadow) one would imagine common sense dictates they select somebody pretty damned clever. Dan Quayle's potato debacle comes to mind. |
By:
I had occasion to use the word fecund on here the other day. Another very pleasing word that ends in -und. It can't be coincidental.
By:
you have extensive vocabulary jed bit like Lord O had to google his words too
you a Therse May grammar boy ? |
By:
That dog in the insurance adverts used to be a rotund dachshund.
By:
rotund, yet another one.
Dachshund is a German word, and thus inherently displeasing. |
By:
How about UNDERGROUND, Jed? There can't be many words that start and end with UND. :)
By:
Moribund and ****bund also spring to mind.
By:
Ridiculous censorship. I was referring to a sash worn around the waist.
By:
Underground is a curious one. It is of course moderately pleasing because of the double -und, but the changed pronunciation ruins the aesthetic for me.
Moribund - a hugely pleasing word. Cu mmerbund - Pleasing, but only because it sounds German and is in fact of Indian derivation. |
By:
War einst so rund,
Der liebe Dachshund. Doch jetzt so schlank gemacht, Dank' der Versicherung Macht. A beautiful, poetic and inherently fecund language imo |
By:
How about UNDERFUND? Would that be one word I wonder?
JOCUND is another one, though, meaning jolly. :) |
By:
POUNDLAND?
By:
JOCUND may be the most pleasing word of all.
There have been as many Literary classics written in Manx as German, sfbtw. |
By:
Kafka, Czech novelist, wrote in German
Rilke, Austrian poet, wrote in German Keller, Swiss short-story writer, wrote in German Nietzsche, German philosopher-poet, wrote in German Me, British poet (see above), writes in German All five of us are the authors of literary classics (see above). |

All this talk of pretty words is all good and well but how come nobody has mentioned the fact that Capt_F thinks Beth Ditto is very attractive?
By:
Perhaps he is a secret splosher KKD?
By:
Rilke is a favourite of mine sfbtw. Some very haunting stuff. I try to read as much poetry as I can.
By:
A pleasing thread. I still thank Allah that I went to a Grammar School. Fingers crossed Mistress Theresa will bring them back.
By:
You like Rilke's efforts, but not mine then?
Schweinhund. |
By:
Slough Grammar School for Boys here, Alun. Same as Gary Numan out of Tubeway Army. Incredible that one school should have spawned so much literary talent.
By:
Grammar school boy too, best thing that ever happened to me. No doubt we will get the usual well to do whingers objecting about working class kids getting a better opportunity in life.
By:
KEGS Chelmsford, for me.
By:
a woman who cannot even talk properly is a shadow education minister sums the philth up.
By:
Attending the same educashunul establishment as Gary 'David who?' Numan must have indeed been an awe-inspiring, humbling, yet highly motivational experience for you SBW. Little wonder you became a writer of some merit.
Best thing that ever happened to me as well Treetop. Bring back the grammar schools ASAP. |
By:
It seems almost superfluous to mention this but today we are ALL Numanoids.

Webb, G was in the fifth form while I was in the first form, so we were neither "friends" nor electric. Mind you, he didn't have any cars at that time either.
My mother went to the same school as Micklewhite, MJ, which explains why she left at 14 with no qualifications. She was ever so proud when she wrote out the address label on my new satchel for the first day: "Slough Grammer School". I was given 50 lines when the Latin master spotted it on day one. Then another 50 when I pointed out that it was my mother who had written it. "Evasion of responsibility is despicable." Since my dad was a Ukrainian who could barely speak English, never mind spell it, I can only guess how grim, unfulfilling and frustrating life might have been without the opportunities a grammar school education offered. It offered access to a world that might as well have been another dimension if you grew up on an estate in Slough in the 1960s and 1970s. |
By:
and you end up been a faceless poster, having a pop at kids on sink estates on a betting forum your mum and headmaster must be very proud,

A friend of mine owns a few bars in the USA. He was a Numan fan of sorts for about 10 minutes in the 80s, and tells me that whenever "Cars" comes on the jukebox it ALWAYS receives a positive response from the blue-chip clientele that frequent one of his taverns.
There could surely be no finer validation of a Slough Grammar School education. |

This thread must give way to the wonderful Jacob Rees Mogg...
https://youtu.be/GmXQOJhd0_0 Jacob Rees-Mogg has made the record books with the use of floccinaucinihilipilification in the House of Commons - now the longest word in Hansard. The Conservative MP told Andrew Neil the 29-letter word meant the "act or habit of estimating as worthless" and that it "came to mind as it does from time to time". ![]() |

Angela Rayner lowering the bar yet again today. At least her consistency is to be admired I suppose. :(
By:
SEXIST SEXIST SEXIST AND INCLUSIVITYPHOBE
their that has put you in your plaice |
By:
If Labour win, we'd have Angela Rayner has education secretary, and Diane Flabbot as home secretary.
