Just got some from a fresh counter in my local supermarket.
Made Infront of me. So so fresh and tasty.
Looks a fun thing to try.

So how hard is it?

Easy (if you dont care what it looks like) and cheap. We used to get a decent sized piece of salmon, chop it up into lots of strips, big bucket of sushi rice in the middle of the table, chop up some nori and cucumber and off you go, make it and eat it at the table.  Soy sauce in a bowl, bit of wasabi if you like it. Big fk off rolls like kebabs, none of that dinky stuff for £3.50 a pop in sainsers.

what about parasites? i heard sushi had loads.
Report Gnarley August 25, 2016 3:26 AM BST
Nope. Never tried it.

SoSueMeSatsuma That's actually my, prior to this announcement that is, secret wrestling name.

WASABI MURRAWUKKER.

Made it a couple of times.  Fairly straightforward.  When you make it yourself you realise how big the retail margins must be.

You are eating 90% rice.

Difficult to buy a small enough piece of fish unless you are feeding 5,000.

Which, come to think of it, maybe Jesus made sushi.....?

Cheers we going to have a go at weekend.

Seem to recall you need a rolling mat, some seaweed..errrr.... Blush

...plenty of online videos to help!
Report blackbarn August 25, 2016 2:13 PM BST
The seaweed is called Nori.   Sushi has little to do with raw fish, as it is simply the name given to the vinegared rice. Raw fish is sometimes/often used but you can used almost anything to go with the rice to make what is generally called "sushi".
Report rob_dylan August 25, 2016 6:46 PM BST
I sometimes just do the rice with cucumber wrapped in seaweed and dipped in soy sauce. It is the soy/rice/nori combo that makes it. I would eat this in industrial quantities when I was full on training.

Yes ordered the Matt cheers.
Will just do cucumber pepper and avocado to start with.

Would advise anyone who is considering eating raw fish to freeze it for 1 day before hand .
Report rob_dylan August 26, 2016 12:01 PM BST
Not sure i would fancy carrot in sushi
Report Gallivanter August 26, 2016 3:12 PM BST
Look at raw fish through a good magnifying glass (you don't need a microscope). See all those wriggly things? They don't just live in your bowel, they transfer to muscle tissue through your blood vessels and lymph nodes. The worst thing is if they get into your eyeball and you can see them.

google - parasites and sushi ?
as the greatest entertainer once said - deep folly.

I've been eating garlic to kill anything that might be there?
I've heard garlic might not be a safe thing to eat, over did it? So I'm quitting that.

sainsbury sells powdered cloves for a pound.
pineapple paralyzes them.
pumpkin seeds helps too.

If you've had a pet - you'll have them for sure.

I love Sushi, got some from M&S earlier. It's easy to make but expensive to buy, a lot of the expense is in the making.
Report breadnbutter August 27, 2016 1:57 PM BST
ffs Ovalman  ,its raw bleeding fish ,what expense is in that ?

zorro ...you would need to eat a hell of a garlic to rid yourself of some of the nasties in raw fish or anything else for that matter.

its not health and safety nazis ,its simple advice to the potentially  ignorant ,freeze raw  fish before eating .

breadnbutter - your advice on raw fish is sound but your credibility is somewhat damaged by you spouting authoritatively on Sushi without knowing what it isCrazy.  It is vinegared rice!, sometimes served with raw fish.
Report Ovalman. August 27, 2016 2:56 PM BST
Sashami is slices of raw fish.

The expense is in the making, have you ever watched a Sushi chef making it? It does take time and he can only make so much in an hour.

Making my own I find expensive as you have to buy a variety of ingredients. It's not nice eating a large batch of the same stuff but it's gave me the notion to go out and buy some ingredients. Damn you!
