When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (Jack Haley) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked
Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) to earn his help.

Definitely Lorre, Guinness. I thought he was great - brilliant screen presence! And then I love these lyrics:

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime

Happy

On Talking Pictures tv on Friday, there is a host of stuff from the 30s being shown. I don't think there is anything on listed here but thought it may be of interest to those who have access to this channel.

39 steps with Robert Doughnut is a favourite of mine.

The guy out of Dads Army (we're all dooooomed!!) is in it (can't be arsed to google his name). Looks in his 60's then, so fook knows how old he was in dads army.

Goodbye Mr Chips with Robert Donat. Fabulous story.

Martin Clunes had a very good stab at the role a dozen or so years ago in a TV movie.

John Laurie was the actor in the 39 steps

I mentioned Night At The Opera in an earlier post & found one of Groucho's remarks

He was a TV host for a while & once interviewed a woman with 19 kids - he asked why she had so many - she said it was because she loved her husband

Groucho replied by saying I smoke & love my cigar...but I take it out of my mouth sometimes

Had me in fits of laughter when I read that

Groucho has some great one-liners. My fav is "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose" followed by a quick twist of his ciger.. Priceless..

Speaking of Dad`s Army. Did you know that Arnold Ridley, who played Goddfrey, wrote The Ghost Train which was turned into the classic 1941 film starring Arthur Askey.

Aka, Stagecoach was a brilliant film. Nobody could make Westerns like the great John Ford. It was John Wayne`s first major film following his outstanding B Movie career.
