Burton, I was about fourteen when I built my first (and only self-built) guitar. It was in the woodwork class at school. (This wasn't a school in England but the Master was an Englishman.)

Getting the right glue was difficult but the woodwork Master managed it. I also needed strings. After the term break, I arrived with strings my dad had brought from the UK. I wasn't convinced that the glue had fully set, so I decided to leave it until the next week.

During that week, my usual woodwork Master was replaced by somebody else.

That somebody else fitted the strings.

The guitar exploded.

Outcome? I was expelled from the school for insolence. (Kicking him in the whatnots. That's what it said in the letter.)

Good luck with your guitar. If anything goes wrong, it will be your fault. I hope your whatnots survive.

Kent Duchaine's guitar is called Leadbessie and is I think a 1934 National steel.  Someone will know better.   On his trips to Europe, he used to play a little corner Blues Pub in Brighton called the Ranelagh, as did another very fine (but departed) guitarist - Ben Andrews. Gary Moore used to pop along from Hove to play "secret" gigs there too, in front of about 70/80 people, a few years before he died.

The body isn't a genuine fender but I'm not worried about that, everything else will be correct including Kluson machine heads. I saw Peter Green a few years back. Sad to see and just sat at the side playing guitar. Never said a word and was obviously under medication but still had the magic touch which the greats have. Often what they play is very simple but it's the emotion and feeling which is impossible to reproduce. BB King another.

When best solos are ever discussed or agreed there are several names that regularly appear on the lists; all lists are different but some solos are respected by most lists, if not all.

The one solo, for me, that regularly features on these lists, is Dave Gilmore's Comfortably Numb. It is my personal favourite and the song that finally cemented PF as my favourite band of all time, although I was already turning after sinking into DSotM.

I can't say I've heard all of the names mentioned here but one of them that does work for me is Jimmy Page, but I still (imvho) believe that Gilmore is, at the very least, his equal.
