Provided home, work and education for most of him and his family. Gave him his start in athletics. He feels British and pays due reference to the nation for which he competes - in otherwords just the sort of thoroughly integrated individual the racists on here profess to want to encourage.

Yet still they want to put him down.

Just for once, why can't you be pleased that him (and Mo Sbihi) won Gold medals for Team GB, without any political agenda?

Sometimes I get the feeling that there are a lot of CC'ers who get off on emphasising divisions where non really exist.

Well said Roger.

This forum really is a mirror image of real life. My real life anyway.

I wonder if the type of person making some of the comments above reflect the only types I come across making them in real life? Usually middle aged, bitter, never really reached their full potential but will blame everyone else except themselves.

Take every every every opportunity offered to you, regardless of your start in life.

Farah seems a nice guy but yes he will have that Salazar taint.

He's part of the GB team which is on target to outperform again at an Olympics. In a post Brexit world the country needs even more so to perform on the world stage. Sport as well as commerce. Lottery money well spent.

If you wish to compete at the top level in distance running nowadays, there is no substitute for training for a large part of the time at altitude. Oregon happens to be such a place. Historically, quite a few world best times have been achieved there, in fact I believe Ivory Crockett may still hold the record for 100 yards set in Eugene in the mid-70s.

So his preference for living and training in Oregon is easy to understand, the idea that he could achieve the same outcomes training at Crystal Palace or Lea Valley is preposterous.
Report Slicer August 14, 2016 11:42 AM BST
I can't see that anyone is questioning his achievement, just his nationality. Praise as an athlete-YES, praise as a Brit-NO! And while I am here, Andrew Murray Esq is Scottish when he loses and British when he wins. I, personally hope that the sour faced unpleasant personality will be Scottish after the Olympic final.

Its the Flag of Convenience and Drug Cheat Games now, Lithuanians rowing for Ireland, Kenyans running for Turkey, Russians speed skaters for Australia (winter olympics), South Africans golfing for Team GBDevil and the largest country in the worlds athletes mostly banned for drug taking this year. Give me re-runs of Bargain Hunt over this. Didn't Morrissey call the opening ceremony at the London Olympics something akin to a 1940's Nazi Rally. Rant over

I'm oddly ambivalent towards such an incredible champion who wears a GB shirt.

I think it's because his events are dominated by East Africans from where he originally hails.

He's British but he's a champion primarily because of his Somalian genes. (What is it with that part of Africa!!?)

We harnessed his talent and gave him the help to succeed which is brilliant.

Galen Rupp's achievements as a white distance runner are truly incredible. He's the only white guy to challenge the East Africans.

Dont need it to help me through the night when I have Horlicks! I hope this clarifies the matter. ps my memory is not great these days but I am sure that Andrew Murray Esquire, when asked what his favourite football team was, he answered that it was any team that was playing England. Shame the Murray antecedents weren't on the receiving end of Culloden or the Highland Clearances!

Report fife August 15, 2016 1:27 PM BST
Unfortunately Makybe-Diva to some of the the bigots and racists on here any joke or dig at England should be punishable by being vilified and hated for the rest of their lives irrespective of what is said or achieved later in life. Any comment no matter how derogatory about any other country is perfectly acceptable and even to be encouraged and commended Sad
Report Slicer August 15, 2016 2:49 PM BST
I agree. I think bigotry and racism is terrible. The racists among other religions who hate Christians and the bigots who won't call Christmas by its title and don't allow Christians to wear crosses at work are despicable. It is a Christian country isn't it! Well it used to be! The Christian ethos that allows persecuted fellow human beings into the country is thanked by bombs and beheadings. Thank you Fife for your support in this matter! Its nice to know that yet another forumite agrees with me and wishes to expose racists and bigots.
Report fife August 15, 2016 2:58 PM BST
Yes Slicer and where does Andy Murray fit in this in your opinion as his gentle jibe seems to have caused you some angst.
Report Slicer August 15, 2016 3:12 PM BST
No angst- I save that for more important matters, like the 4.00 at Chelmsford. The only comment I shall pass at the moment regarding Andrew Murray Esquire (no doubt soon to be Sir Andrew Murray) is that I very much regret that he is now a gold medal winner yet again.
