very nearly laid her top 3, she was matched at 1.1

I think she realised she wasnt going to make the turn so at the last minute slammed the brakes on and kind of made herself come off the bike so she wouldnt go into the trees.  Happened so quickly and I dont want to watch it again to find out. A shame as it was an epic finish to the race, that poor yank getting taken on the line and not getting a medal.

Abbott was getting out of the saddle too often, always a worrying sign

rode the race percfectly she said,agreed seemed to be very comfortable, maybe she didnt want a medal and invite all the attention,

In hindsight she surely went too fast on the downward part.

My first thought was broken neck.

Nauseating crash , I really thought the poor woman could have been killed .

If a former Olympic cycling champion thinks the descend is unacceptable , then it is.

In the health and safety obsessed 21st century to ask cyclists to descend in shade covered rain forest on roads with deep rain gullies is criminal .

was thinking of fabio casartelli only moments before it happened and thought the worst when she lay motionless. thank fook she's not more seriously injured.
