Ghost is free and works well. Current version is 6.0 hut I've reverted to version 5.5 as it's easier to use.

You have to wait for a 'slot' but usually only 3 or 4 minutes.

Report Kit-Kat-Dan August 7, 2016 11:35 AM BST
Yes, download and install. Then turn it on or off as you need it.
Report vindaloo August 7, 2016 11:39 AM BST

Report Kit-Kat-Dan August 7, 2016 11:45 AM BST
Cyber ghost yes. I use it for download sites and find its speed ok but if speed is an issue then go for it.

I have been using Hidemyass for nearly a year with no problems. you can pay monthly(to try it out) or yearly, I just went straight for the 1 year option(cant remember cost but will have to look as subscription due soon)and I think you can have it on 3 devices, I currently use the one account on my tablet and laptop
I checked out several free and pay sites before I took the plunge as I knew nowt about them.

Can anyone confirm they're actually effective for keeping a fresh bookmaker account open? I'd be concerned that the bigger bookies at least would know which ISP numbers are generated by VPNs, and hence restrict or ban your account on that basis.

Or are those fears groundless? 'Cos I don't want to waste access to a clean bank account now by not waiting for an opportunity later where I might have access to a clean router and ISP instead.
Report dave1357 August 7, 2016 7:22 PM BST
You will have to disable flash as well to stop iesnare as this logs details about your computer and your vpn will be ineffective.

It is also worth noting that if gambling sites decide to withhold payment, the Gambling Commission won't do anything.  They won't even acknowledge you if you complain to them.

I was using Hidemyass and never had any problems apart from not being able to get BBC iplayer when abroad.

Anyone know of a good one to get the iplayer.

Screaming I will report back after a month. I have been betting for a living for around 16 years, get through on average 120 accounts a year. I am finding now that my location is bringing unwanted attention to my accounts. I just wanted to make things a bit more random and keep me under the radar
Report vindaloo August 7, 2016 9:50 PM BST
Onthehoy. Which accounts do u use the vpn on? Does this provide a new ip and a location every day? Does it have any performance issues as I need to use the sites quite rapid

Thanks for replies

Thanks for the replies.

Getting access to a fresh Bet365 account is the holy grail of course. The problem is that their site cunningly runs on Adobe Flash, so disabling Flash as a means of disguising yourself would be pointless. One way around that might be to use their iPhone app, since my understanding is that the iPhone does not support Flash. Presumably the Bet365 iPhone app runs completely differently from the standard site.

I'm still reluctant to go down the VPN route, as surely the bigger firms, who go to so much trouble to track unwanted punters, must know most of the ISP addresses generated by VPNs, and simply either deny access to their site or close users down, should they detect one of these ISP addresses.

Unfortunately I have a lousy mobile signal at home, but sitting upstairs by the window using an iPhone with the wifi turned off might be the most reliable means of operating a new account.

That's an iPhone previously unused for the bookmaker in question of course.

if its new ip address your after well isps renew quite often.
usually closing the wan connection will re new the ip address....not all isps are the same though.

you can check your router or a website to check your ip address.

best also to use a cleaner to wipe down after each browser sesson...clean cookies.
Report vindaloo August 8, 2016 11:55 AM BST
the ghost also blocks all third party cookies.
using it this morning seem to be working great. no performance issues
Report vindaloo August 8, 2016 11:56 AM BST
screaming you don't need to disable flash to block the ie snare and third party cookies. using privacy badger and ghost blocks them all

Vindaloo, sorry about late reply, I have a problem with my laptop!!! - I might have to ask the expert chitchatters for help

I have logged into most bookies using the VPN  although lately i have logged in and placed bets on Baldy, Corrralll, LAddies, Purple, I am only a small bettor but have never had problems when making withdrawls

The wizz kids, on Hidemyass I have found I can use iplayer by conecting to the "Australia Sydney-virtual uk" connection, that is the only connection I have found to work with iplayer.

I haven't used these myself but may be of interest to you?

http://www.alphr.com/technology/5298/mobile-signal-boosters-whats-legal
Report screaming from beneaththewaves August 9, 2016 12:08 AM BST
Thanks for that, Gin. The problem with signal boosters is that you need the outdoor antenna located somewhere with a decent signal, which would be up a tree in the orchard next door in my case. I do get a 3G signal indoors with the phone lying flat on the the bedroom window window ledge, but it's just one bar. That's good enough to use a bookmaker's website up there, but not good enough to be boosted to other locations in the house. It doesn't help that the walls of the house are a couple of feet thick.

If the owner of the bank account which I intend using had a home address near me, then I'd simply buy a new router and laptop and use those. But even though ISP addresses from home broadband suppliers are fairly fluid once you turn your router off and back on again, they all give away your rough location, which in my case is 200 miles from the address to which I'd want to register a new bookmaker account.

ISP addresses from 3G or 4G services, on the other hand, are anonymous (at least in the case of EE they are - wherever you log on, the ISP address shows up as a London one).
Report Gin August 9, 2016 11:55 AM BST
No worries.

Although I haven't used them, I thought I had read that they can turn a poor signal into a much better one but from what you are saying that is not the case.

On the subject of ISP addresses changing wen you restart your router - i'm not sure that is the case with all suppliers. I know that Virgin Media use to use static IP addresses but am not sure if that is still the case (although they stated that they weren't static but "sticky" which I think means that they could change them if they wanted to but generally didn't).

Hope you find a solution.

365 have blocked most common VPN's since the beginning of the year. You'll need to find an obscure paid for one.

VPN's don't really make a difference to the length an account lasts in my experience anyway.

Are you using the same source for each account?

I'd be inclined to try a virtual machine before a VPN.

Report screaming from beneaththewaves August 9, 2016 4:10 PM BST
Gin, I think websites with click-throughs to firms selling signal boosters like to give the impression that one bar at the window can somehow magically be boosted to four bars in the living room. But if you get down to the operating instructions, the reality is that they can ensure that four bars on the roof remains as four bars, rather than one bar, in the living room. As long as you climb on the roof and fix the equipment there, of course.

They seem to be a bit like hearing aids, in that they're only effective if you're not really that hard of hearing anyway.

cj whats a virtual machine?
Report Stow_judge August 9, 2016 7:30 PM BST
Using software like virtual box, you can create a virtual pc on your pc that can run a completely different operating system. The virtual pc exists on a drive on your pc and can be moved to other pcs. For instance, I am running windows 7 and have a virtual pc running windows XP. I have lot's of Access 2000 databases that I run on my virtual PC. They run well on Windows XP, but do not run well on Windows 7.
Report Stow_judge August 9, 2016 7:34 PM BST
The virtual pc appears in a separate window on your pc and you can install software on the virtual pc, access the drives & printers, just like it was another pc on the same network as your real pc.

Basically.

It also gives you the added bonus of having one machine per account.

Had Express VPN for over a year now. Costs about £6 per month. Works well on things like seeing blocked videos coming from outside the UK. Am able to access all my betting accounts from outside the UK's EXCEPT 365, which I can't access when using the VPN either from inside the UK or outside.

But there are a few countries where 365 DO allow access, so a VPN wouldn't be necessary when visiting those countries in any case.
Report Stow_judge August 12, 2016 12:35 PM BST
I use privateinternetaccess which costs $40 a year
Report dave1357 August 12, 2016 4:43 PM BST
@flanders don't know if its applicable to hidemyass but some vpn set ups can still unmask your location through a "dns leak".  You can check it at https://www.dnsleaktest.com/
