Female Muslim NHS worker has been detained and questioned under terror laws at Doncaster's Robin Hood airport after a cabin crew member spotted her reading a Syrian culture book .

Her job role is preventing patients from becoming radicalised!

Just thinking about what books not to read when going on holidays - Jamie's 15-Minute Meals if visiting Fiji .

What's the problem with that?
They scrutinise everyone at airports these days.

I'm glad the authorities are on the ball. If they had to justify every time they pull someone over they'll become ineffective.

But the authorities are not on the ball if they just stop people who are seen to be reading foreign books. And it is counter-productive in two ways: first, it makes the ones who get stopped more antagonistic to the authorities; more importantly, it gets in the way of stopping genuine threats.

And if you read the story, the police let her fly out and only stopped her on her return flight two weeks later. If she did pose a threat, surely it was to the first flight.

So you don't object to people being stopped?

I'm glad we've got that sorted.

Let me go further: I positively welcome terrorists being stopped.

I don't object to people being stopped on *correct grounds* but that does not include being seen reading a book before getting on a plane a whole two weeks earlier -- a plane which has so far not fallen from the sky in mysterious circumstances.

it is unlawful to read certain books under muslim law, she should pipe down if she has nothing to say on these terrible things.
van goth was murdered for a book or film...no that is something she can talk about should she be brave enough.

it is quite simple, do not presume on the good nature of the western nations. at least not until we have a few examples of muslim countries up holding human rights and freedoms.

How do they know they are terrorists until they've been scrutinised?

It's nice to see the authorities are active and doing their jobs.

Intelligence? Electronic sniffing for weapons or explosives? The Israelis do it by looking for patterns of behaviour. Not fortnight-old reports that someone read a foreign book.

What you applaud is often derided as "security theatre" -- being seen to do something, even if what is done does not work.

Israel uses factors such as age, race, religion, and destination as part ot its security methods. the question is why is the woman upset?,i don`t know
