The success of Britain's Olympic and Paralympic stars is to be celebrated with events in Manchester and London, Theresa May has announced.

There will be a parade through the streets of Manchester and another event in the capital in October.

Show jumper Nick Skelton became Britain's second-oldest Olympic gold medallist in his seventh Games.

The 58-year-old, who initially retired 16 years ago after breaking his neck in two places, claimed individual gold after a six-way jump-off.

that is jingoism of the worst kind.

The 2nd British 4x100 runner clearly started ahead of the line and was rightly disqualified.

You should spend time in the pub with your mate Prince Philip muttering about darkies and slitty-eyed people.

It makes no sense to be Johnny.

I watched the clip it looked like the guy blocked the head kick at the end.
So kicks at the head that don't connect get points?

It's a joke of a 'sport' what's the point of it?
People don't even fight like that most kicks miss and leave them vulnerable.
If you telegraphed a kick like that in a street fight and missed which they invariably do then you can't pretend it was a joke.
Just block the kick and get up inside and stick your fingers in their eyes.
How many points for that?

It was a bit bizarre though. At one point the British guy seemed to have knocked the other guy's helmet off with a kick, but slowmo replay showed that he had somehow partially blocked his own kick. Confused
Also, I didn't see a clean kick to the head winning it in the last second. All very ambiguous and subjective.
Hard not to feel for the guy, but I got the impression earlier on that he had already, more or less awarded himself the gold medal before the final. So, maybe he got what he deseved for his complacency.

I managed to find the Women's Modern Pentathlon riding round, from yesterday.  It was very good. Some very decent riders. Some very decent horses, too. No medals for GB.

I have just watched the men's riding round. Joe Choong is in with a good chance of a medal for GB. The Run and Shoot will be on at 10.00pm.

No medal for Joe Sad He went from second place to 9th after his shooting let him down. James Cooke finished 13th.

I had the same thought re Inverdale. Surprised he was at the boxing. Looked like he just wasn't really interested. He suits Rowing and the Rugby Sevens. I'd have had him at the cycling and the Canoe Sprints although you feel Balding pushed for main gig that was the cycling. Is he BBC rather than an independent such as Balding?

Not rude at all. Andy was right to correct him.
Report lfc1971 August 21, 2016 4:32 PM BST
you do not correct someone in front of millions of people.

in Japan such a thing would be shameful. This can cause problems in Japan because if you mention something to them which they know to be untrue they will not correct you.

it can even depend how you ask the question. Do not say i think the train leaves at 2, i will catch that one for example.
in Japan they will agree even if it leaves at 3 they don`t like say so

you must ask what time does the train leave.

its strange but nice.

Report lfc1971 August 21, 2016 5:33 PM BST
well it may have been valid, in theory, if Murry honestly believed that Inverdale was trying to demean womens tennis in front of millions of people.

now i don`t happen to believe that, it seems an idiotic thing to believe..imo
Report mafeking August 21, 2016 5:36 PM BST
he wasn't even referring to men's tennis. obvious he meant no one of either sex had retained an olympic singles title

not that surprising really considering tennis has only been in the olympics around 10 times and you'd only get 2 or 3 realistic chances in a career
