Thanks brassneck. My computer uses are very minimal and didn't wanna get 10, but if I didn't get it before July 29th, I'd have to pay for it.

Jayco - My drive worked perfectly in Windows 7.

I wonder how many other things have stopped working???
Report Jayco July 30, 2016 11:13 PM BST
yes but do you need it probably not if minimal use, why were they trying to force it on everyone
Report sheppy123 July 30, 2016 11:15 PM BST
I thought that I better get it whilst it was free thinking that one day there might not be any updates for 7 etc.
Report Jayco July 30, 2016 11:18 PM BST
think you have 30 days to revert back, try it and see if its for you

Windows 7 - the BEST Windows version by Miles - WILL BE supported by Microsoft Updates  until Jan 2020 ..... Thankfully.

Every OTHER version of Windows has been Good - the v ersions inbetween bad - put right by the next version

Windows 95 - OK - for the infancy of the Internet
Windows 98 - far  BETTER
Windows 2000 - Millennium Edition - Awful
Windows XP - Far BETTER
Windows Vista - Awful
Windows 7 - BRILLIANT - the best, by far

Windows 8 - Absolute garbage - Aimed at the 'touch Screen' SmartPhone/ Ipad/Tablet 'Yoof' Generation ... But foisted upon UNWARY Desktop PC users.

Microsoft soon realised that the Public had REJECTED Windows 8 in their MILLIONS - and so, consequently, RUSHED OUT ...

Windows 10 - Which incorporates some Windows 8 Features - BUT, had to return to some Windows 7 style displays - RESULT, however ...

A mish-mash mess.

Phew! I can see another day of frustration coming on!

The way things are going I think I will be resorting back to 7.

This is a miracle but it's working now!

I have a massive phobia regarding looking for answers to computer problems on the net. It's like registry this...registry that... I hate messing with things I know nothing about!

Anyway, due to my need to use my player I had to take some chances and I couldn't believe it when it worked!

I don't know who wrote this but it worked...

Go into device manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI, uninstall both channels 0 and 1. Reboot immediately. When it reloads, your lost DVD player should now be there. It worked great for me, and I was getting so tired of trying everything.
