no inflation ? over forty years.

I asked my Mom how much her rent was pre Thatcher (1979) for her house. She said £12, I asked was that for a week? She said monthly. WHIT. £12 a month. She also told me the next door neighbours who let from the private owner gets £600 a month. So in forty years its went up x  50 times.
Mrs thatcher has taken public housing stock and increased its value by  x50.
people try to live and work to pay for their rent which is overpriced.
has salaries went up by x 50 since 1979 ?
