Part of my job that I was being paid for I asked if I could do in a voluntary capacity. I prefer it that way.
I do get paid for today so I had better put my iPad down and get out of bed or I will be late

I think it's most important to do (work) something you love. I'm now semi-retired and I look around at the Job opportunities for youngsters and they're not so good...

Not many of us would do the job that we spent most of our life doing for nothing. I enjoyed farming for 25 years when I was making a decent living but after three years of making zero income I decided to sell and enjoy my hobbies, one of which did earn me some money until my pension arrived.

I loved making 30k per year from poker , enjoyed making 20k per year , hung in there making 10k for 2 years & then quit making 2k year as was wasting my brain capacity
everybody has there own tolerance levels
I'm ready to bail out & live in a campervan or boat at any moment as I don't like society too much anywayz
Much more fulfilling to make your own way imoI loved making 30k per year from poker , enjoyed making 20k per year , hung in there making 10k for 2 years & then quit making 2k year as was wasting my brain capacity everybody has there own tolerance lev
since I moved 3+ years ago my Banks still about the same Coach , maybe 5k better off with other things I've bought , def not by football betting, but I've paid my bills/living expenses for another 3 years which all adds up as you know

I took a sickener to my job. I was on a good salary, expenses and had a company car. Took early retirement to enjoy my life better. Had to eat into my savings for about 5 years but still think it was worth it.

Yeah I survive .. had a really bad spell 2014-15 but football betting was def killing me along with the braindead poker slog
Could've made an easy 10-15k in stocks but started to believe these Doom Mongers too much , though the world is fcked up!
Would really like to live on a boat still have nothing to lose tbh , could even rent my flat out , internet on a boat

Yes very relaxing, on your own with nowhere to go and nobody to see... nothing to get up for at all
It would be horrendous for someone like moony.
I hope he goes for it

i've always fancied a barge on a canal near Worcester - but then there's probably not enough room to swing a cat .
Moony lad - just tell your neigbours in the flats youre some sort of brain deranged lunatic with extreme religous views .
you will have detached accomadation before you know it

I think the boat people have a bit of a gippo or tramp like image. I live near to a river where there are plenty of people living on boats and they do look a little grubby/unclean.

True there's not too much room on a standard narrowboat though some of the widebeams are amazing - but are then limited to certain waterways - on a narrowboat you can travel the country just stopping wherever you feel for a couple days here & there - at least your living with nature which we lack in our concrete world - true there's limited running water but how much water do you need I filter all mine anyway - only thing you're limited to is taking too many baths - showers instead - but no council tax - sky or BBC fees - and internet's getting a lot better though limited to watching films etc .
I guess it would get boring but life's boring anyway & the way the economy is I can't see why anybody with a brain & money would be stuck in a concrete life watching sky tv , paying a mortgage etc

I don't talk to any of them Coach .. but they probably think I'm slightly deranged anyway .. thing is I Know they are
Religious views are best kept to yourself around here (large Asian community) though none in my flats .. they just own all the rich 4 bed houses instead

yep standard internet's ok though could be a bugger if connection dropped while trading 1k or so
only downside would be having to travel to every shop along the way ..
How's the House turned out for you mate

reading about boat living i get the impression it's a way of life and not an alternative to house living - in the blood type of thing .
i like the idea of a nomadic lifestyle -but not sure about the dead of winter
House is going fine mate , doing bits here and there as i get motivated enough ,thats my brick wall - getting things done - the temptation is too lay out on the patio in the sun drinking beer when there is no one to answer to
Life is hard, but its even harder when youre head won't motivate itself

Hey Coach Yep I've looked into it in detail & you're right about being a way of life , also a fair bit of downside to it (lot of Locks) and I would miss having no postal service for stuff like ebay I'd love to do it for a year or so but is quite a big decision so am probably better off staying put for now , Grass always Greener as they say
I'm also terrible lacking motivation , planned to decorate as soon as I moved & took me years , still have things to do (more like pay to get done for me)
Haven't been far since I lived here been quite ill tbh , just grind all day then feel so tired , plus not driving atm as don't really need a car , my head's not right with so much gambling over the years but what else can i do

yeah postal service is a weird one - i guess you'd need a po box or good friend /family member.
gambling is def a tiring business ,does play havoc with the head ,but it's also a friend - so where do we go with that one - a bit like having a mental girlfriend .
this is why i give gambling a miss for at least a month every year . How comes the illness moonbeam - stress related ?

Yes it started off stress related end 2014 thought I was having heart attacks , even phoned an Ambulance!
Very ill first half 2015 could hardly get outta bed , though a lot of Mental stress too (Family etc) and now all my muscles are giving up (could be age but am only just 40)
Been Doctors , Hospitals all year , and they all say Nothing's wrong ..
Well I won't live like this forever , rather be Homeless , fck the system

McM I attended a 2 day seminar on work related stress issues. Was really good and the 2 main things I took from it were unscramble your thinking and the benefit of to do lists. The unscramble your thinking was merely a case of listing your problems and looking at how you could attack them. Once you had done that it was a case of how to approach them w by means of a to do list. Could be down to environment in your case. But rather than taking the jump why not arrange a boat holiday and see how it goes.

BTW I eventually came to the conclusion that I'd be better off retiring. Not better off financially but in lifestyle terms so took early retirement. I have never regretted it.

yes - it's a pity you can't trade in parts of your brain , Some areas of life are a bit perplexing .
McM - yes - get a boat on the canal for a week or something - if you need a bit of exercise, how about getting hold of a nice bike and find some pretty cycle tracks in the area - will free the mind for a while . It's good fun - theres a 9 mile one a few miles from me which circles a lake and a pub at the end of it

I think stress can often come from a loss of control and if you've too much to it may seem not possible to do, breaking it down into a list of manageable chunks makes sense.

Yep unscrambling your brain's a big part of it, but easier said than done at times, spending 10 years grinding online poker along with trading all kinds of sports is enough to drive anybody mental, along with moving away just needed to take some time out, mental stress can be a lot more gripping than people realize & starts to manifest physically.
My main problem is the fact I don't have a job, so have no safety net whatsoever, can't claim benefits or take 'time out' like any sane person with a job could do, though not for too long I appreciate, but they have that option, if I take time off I make no money, so no matter what level of mental pain I'm in I have to grind through it all , or gradually lose money to living costs etc.
When I go to the Doctors they just try put me on Amiltriptyline , Naproxen & other nasty pain killers , you try function properly with money at stake on that stuff it's simply Impossible , all you can do is sleep for 18 hours !
So basically there is no system , it's just one big money go round , you either go broke or suffer , simples
Did plan on getting a bike actually Coach but not that good around here , would be nice just to take an afternoon to ride along the canals , let alone rent a boat , but should maybe think about moving again
Cheers guys!Yep unscrambling your brain's a big part of it, but easier said than done at times, spending 10 years grinding online poker along with trading all kinds of sports is enough to drive anybody mental, along with moving away just needed to ta
I'm talking about the morning off btw. If you're still grinding at the betting every hour you are awake you need to stop.
For longer term good you need to get some cash together to give yourself a break. Selling up and taking a cheaper property will give you the cash to do this. I'm assuming you own your current place. Whats stopping you claiming benefits btw?

yes I own my place , it was one of the cheaper properties I looked at at the time only a 1 bed flat but don't exactly need much more, but would like a house in a more relaxing area, most flats are rented & the area's a bit hectic so doesn't really feel like 'Home'

akabula - i assume moonbeam is over the levels required to claim as all FT gamblers will be , plus too much would be asked about previous work - jumping through hoops etc - not worthwhile ,plus pride at stake - who the hell wants to sign on unless youre starving or need HB ? easier ways ahead ,even if working PT .
Moony - another good activity (this time of year at least ) is caneoing and kayaking - loads of water parks in the Midlands or reserviors -plus it gets rid of any stress - although i appreciate you said you were without a car

went out on the bike yesterday afternoon and the place was buzzing with joggers and cyclists - gives you a good airing
obviously some days you can't find your head in the morning - i felt like that all last week

That's what my son does Coach. He has 5 bikes and takes it really serious. He was earning his living playing poker although he does building work from time to time. He's taken a complete break and living on savings.
