What we see more often now, is disaffected people willing to take the lives of others before they depart this world themselves.

Whether that's driven by political ideals or by desperation, to me, that is symptomatic of a gradual and fundamental lessening in regard for the life of others in society. We're all becoming more selfish and more divisive.
