Oscar sentencing **in running**

I can't believe what I'm hearing ! This judge is going to let him off !

She is the original judge and her comments are the same this time.
The High Court had changed the sentance to murder.which carries at least 15 years.
This judge is focussing on all the mitigating circumstances. Stating OP is not a violent man !

One would have thought that there were enough outrages committed under the aegis of the British Justice System for us not to spend too much time worrying about South Africa's.

Why an earth was this judge used. She had already shown her uneven sympathy to OP first time round. And was heavily criticised for being too lenient - which is why there was an appeal.
So she carries on where she left off - practically praising OP for being a wonderful  human being .

She was used as it would have taken another judge a year to read through the case.

F**ing disgrace. But totally predictable. There must be an appeal and even if unsuccessful, somebody will take him out.

I don't find it beyond me, I just find that it reeks of an unseemly cultural superiority to be questioning the administration of justice in South Africa when our own standards are hardly exemplary.

Could have jailed him for 15 years, he got 6, and could be out in 3. Legal team say they are not planning to appeal, of course not,  they know they've got a good deal ! They must be delighted. Outrageous decision, absolutely disgusting!!!

I think Oscar has been through a lot, two trials, in prison, now back again..he has not been let off.

I do not beat women or kill them. Although I admit have been tempted.

Most people on here are far too much on the women's side..although it is their opinion which they are entitled to.

It is not nice when a women walks out on one, I know, I have sympathy for Oscar there.

I am on men's side.....even if  people think it is a little excessive...oh well, I am not perfect

Just like in the trial the judge took the most favourable view towards Oscar possible. He knew damn well who he was killing. The peculiarities of a country's legal system have allowed him to get away with it. There is also a political dimension here: a black judge being magnanimous towards a white icon -  partaking in the spirit of reconciliation.

He got 5 years originally for manslaughter.

Now he has been convicted of murder, he gets an extra year.
