Don't kid yourself that the Referendum result has seen an upsurge in Racism
It has seen an upsurge in racist behaviour, but that's not a semantic nicety. Does anyone seriously think swathes of our population woke up last Friday thinking for the first time 'anyone not from our one square foot of turf is inferior.'
It's always been there. The referendum result has clearly emboldened some to vocalise their poison, to which my reply is we have long-established and well-thought through laws against race hate and perpetrators should be hit with everything in those laws.
That's not enough though.
Good people need to make themselves heard and actively confront this behaviour whenever they see it (easily said when confronted with a 'hit first, ask questions later' knuckle dragger. But this is the future of our nation we are talking about).
Also, Remaindears do need to now shut up, stop trying to water down or steal the Brexit victory and take away any rationale, however warped, for the right wingers to hide behind their 'anti-political correctness (non) agenda.
....and we all need to go shopping at our local Polish store, because safety pins aren't solving anything.
You may as well just forget about any idea of eradicating Islam. The US couldn't even eradicate alcohol in its own country in the 1920s, and alcohol is something you can actually touch, so eradiciting what is basically an idea is about as realistic as, for example, Merkel's idea that you could let a million extra migrants into Europe without p*ssing people off.
Both sides need to be more pragmatic imo.

It's all about groupism in an evolutionary sense. Groups have a better chance of survival than individuals. Religious people (other than suicide cults, obviously) tend to do better in life than atheists because they belong to a larger, more coherent group (atheists don't gather together to celebrate atheism and cooperate). Doesn't work if you're a Christian in the Middle East for obvious numerical reasons. tbc

Consider the consequences of groupism taken to the extreme. The Jews have a history of persecution because they do not integrate. Arguably persecution through the centuries has made them smarter and more successful than the average - though it may not have seemed that way in the early 1940s. Seem to recall reading the number of Jews worldwide has just exceeded the number alive pre-WW2 (a surprisingly low number - 16 million?). Islam also discourages contacts outside the group - hence arranged marriages, first-cousin marriages and honour killings for those who stray(and probably a tendency to sexual abuse of non-believers - hey, they are outside the group and don't count). A large, relatively unsophisticated/inward-looking group of Muslims in the UK is a concern. Intermarriage is key - the Indian community here has never given me cause for concern (bar their children outperforming the natives at school) - but do they intermarry to any great extent?
If you look where the British 'invaded' during the years of Empire, we have big groups of descendants only where we virtually wiped out the indigenous populations - I'll give New Zealand a score draw. Where are the big British enclaves in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh? Certainly the African ones are being reduced.

We are genetically programmed to be groupist. In many circumstances we can overcome this inherent bias through custom/familiarity. But we do not act well when it becomes a contest for resources - overpopulation and shortages lead to strife. This is beginning to happen in certain UK cities.
As ZenM pointed out, many of our non-indigenous groups don't get on - African v Asian, Asia vPolish, Indian v Pakistani, Turks v Greeks, Sunni v Shia, Sinhalese v Tamil, Jews v Muslims, Roma v everyone. The white middle-classes can relax - they are just a side-show.
Reading an article the other week on the Neanderthals - apparently we have some female Neanderthal genetic material but no male - because we killed males and enslaved the females. That's who we are. There were several other H*mo species at various times - I doubt we killed them with kindness.

I've shopped at Morrisons. They have a polish foods section. Indian foods section. Chinese foods section. The polish food section is basically not needed because it's just the uk foods in a strange packet. polish lentils? sesame snaps. sauerkraut. noodles. choco wafers. Polish are christians.
only difference is they speak a different language? WTF.
If you want to be a racist pick a bandit that is really different.

It's a good post from Roger. & in reality very true.
the worrying thing is no one asked for this & no one knows where this runaway train will end. I'm just not willing to be a victim of my own politicians
