Best Phil Silvers Show, worst Never the Twain. Actually Never the Twain was probably not as bad as all those shows that were so pants we forgot them because they were either cancelled after 3 episodes or never ran to a second series.

Well, yes he just about makes the same room - but they were pre-TV.  They were true giants.  I'm told I was taken to see them on the 1953 tour - when they were out of fashion.  Wish I could remember something/anything.  Blackpool Tower Circus/Zoo is the first 'entertainment' I can recall - not them.

@Imfao.The best for myself from your choices would be Red Dwarf and Dads Army.Terrible acting in Dads Army you say? Arthur Lowes performance in that was brilliant and IMO the acting of the entire cast was top notch comedy acting and the scripts were most definetely not terrible.Never really watched Fools and Horses but i remember the "chandelier falling" episode,that was very funny.Never seen vicar of dibley or Ab fab.Allo Allo? No fawlty towers but you would choose Allo Allo.I would say The Office was the funniest thing on british television since Fawlty towers.Likes,dislikes i suppose its all about what tickles your own little boat.

Off the top of my head here's some of mine.BEST.Faulty Towers,Steptoe,Dads Army,Monty Python,Till death do us part,The Freddie star show from the early/mid 70s and the Office.I also liked It ain't half hot mum because it made me feel kinda warm.WORST.Bread.A comedy about dole scrongers in Liverpool written by a liverpool writer carla lane.She also wrote the dreadfull Liver birds.On the buses was ugly and depressing.LOVE thy neighbour was funny but for all the wrong reasons.Mind your language I seem to remember had a good theme and the very Wonderfully sexy Francoise Pascal but it was as comedy shows go pretty dire.Not purposely a comedy but I thought at the time that Brookside,because it was so terrible, was the funniest thing on TV.As regards Yankee shows,I like the old ones Bilko,Car 54,Munsters,etc

culvin... I didn't hate The Office, like some, I just didn't see the funny side of it. Like I said, it probably appealed more to office workers who maybe had situations like that at work. Same goes for Auf Wiedersehen Pet which could possibly appeal more to contractors and building workers, situations they could relate to.

Early Doors along with Fawlty Towers had only 12 episodes each and both will take some beating for sheer comedy excellence.

I've enjoyed a few US sitcoms over the years but my favourite has been Arrested Development.
