I loved nearly all the songs from the Prefab Sprout album Steve McQueen, Faron young...,Johnny Johnny....,Moving the river...,Bonny,etc...Another album i loved was Rattlesnakes by Lloyd cole and the commotions...Rattlesnakes a line in that song was "She looks like eve marie saint in on the waterfront"...Forest fire...Down on mission street...Charlotte street {BRILLIANT!}...Another band whose songs i constantly played on my sony walkman were Orange Juice..."I guess i'm just a little too sensitive"...Flesh of my flesh,...etc.

The music of the Smiths was absolutely brilliant. At the time i was an incredibly shy boy but listening to their music helped me to understand myself. This Charming man...Heaven knows i'm miserable now...etc.

Culvin, I could have written your last post. Lloyd Cole one of my favourites, nearly posted something like Rattlesnakes, - very evocative, alway liked 'Perfect Blue'. And Prefab Sprout! Absolutely played those albums to death. Strangely, I was never into the Smiths at the time, but got into them big time 10 years on.
Mission Drive is superb. If you like it now, imagine ho much you will like it when you have played it a few times! And loud! Just noticed it was '91 - don't tell anyone. |

Although he was as camp as a camp version of an obese David Campese who had just flown from the Camp Nou to join a fat camp at Camp David (and ate Campbell's soup on the journey over), Dr. Robert and the Blow Monkeys are really under-rated.
He was well anti-Thatcher before Red Wedge...IT PAYS TO BELONG kind of sums up the whole sh1tty Thatcher era...some cracking obsolete office equipment in that vid...DIGGING YOUR SCENE worth watching for the black maid dancing and the karaoke Elvis vibe. Anybody remember Swing Out Sister? White boy jazzymince. |
