Net immigration figures for 2014 were 260,000. Of which only 8,000 ended up in Scotland. Say what you want about immigrants but they're not stupid.

If Scotland were to leave and then the UK were forced to have 2nd referendum then we should win by even more votes.

We do have some good teachers of English. You only have to ask. |
|
By:
When the Scots tried to get their independence the English said they would not be allowed them into England because if they were independent they would not be in the EU.Its sort of the shoe starting to go on the other foot.

The Scots are an integral part of us and they wont be leaving because they're not stupid.
|

By:
I voted no last time, but I will hopefully get the chance to vote yes, which I won't pass up. If that makes me stupid, then I'm happy to be so. You would have to use a stronger word than stupid to describe those fooled by a xenophobic con artist into flushing their futures down the stank. Enjoy having your country back, Scotland is heading for something better.

The UK voted leave the EU because we have little influence in Brussels and pay in billions. The Scots have an influence in the UK well beyond their numbers (think Blair, Brown and Cameron for a start) and they get considerably more per capita than the English. The North Sea is in crisis - negative income this year. Decommissioning costs well in excess of £50 billion (most of which will be paid the UK or Scottish government). As I said, the Scots will not vote out so why waste the money?

By:
now that the oil price has plummeted?
it'll go back up - once the markets implode the zero rate. |
|
By:
When you weigh up what Scotland get from being in the UK compared with what they put in - including voting power, influence etc it makes you wonder why they
would want out. I know some Scots who genuinely do bear grudges for Scotland's treatment by England up to 250 years ago. It might create difficulties if they left the UK, but I think they would suffer more than us. |
|
By:
It's funny how the English feel put upon by EU ruling them with their laws. But don't see they're doing the same to Scotland. ?

a nation thats revenue streams depend mostly on the volatile oil industry.said commodity expected to be exhausted within 100 years.
quite amazing foresight and forward planning wanting independance. |

By:
oil revenues are almost the same as whiskey revenues.
During the world war britain used whiskey revenues as a large source of their income to finance the war. |

Exports generated £3.95 billion for the UK balance of trade. Exports earned £125 every second. 38 bottles were shipped overseas each second. 99 million cases (12 70cl bottles at 40% vol) were exported worldwide. More than 10,000 are directly employed in the Scotch Whisky industry Over 40,000 jobs across the UK are supported by the industry. About £1 billion contributed to the Exchequer in taxes. Some 20 million casks lie maturing in warehouses in Scotland. 115 distilleries are licensed to produce Scotch Whisky. |

Oil will go the same way as coal.. loads of it but nobody will want it.Newer cleaner forms of energy will be used Why do the Saudis spend loads of money building hotels and promoting tourism?because they know over the next few years the demand for oil will start falling So if the Scots are expecting their oil supplies to save them they are wrong

By:
The Scots have always been a valued part of the Union as far as I'm concerned and the fact that they are even considering independence can be blamed on successive British Governments losing touch with the Scottish people.
|
|
By:
I do...they are needed
Since they voted two years ago to stay with the UK they are staying They cannot change their mind every time the UK makes a democratic decision they don't like They should have seen that two years ago! |

Nor do they want any Poles, Estonians, Latvians, etc. etc. |

What needs to happen is that nicola I want I want sturgeon can't keep calling for a referendum every five minutes just because that's all she's interested in.
Never met a bad Scot so if that's what they want fair play but it needs to be put to bed for a good few years. |
|
By:
Sturgeon will not call another referendum. It is a ludicrous notion when rUK outside EU.
