If you have the money then I cannot think of a better place than Palm Island in The Grenadine.

A small all inclusive resort, wonderful beach, very quiet.

Went to Sri Lanka on mine (about 10 years ago). Great place, lovely people and reasonable prices. Columbo is a total dump but there's beach stuff and you can go up to the tea plantations so there's a bit of variety. Some amazing places to stay, mix of modern and ex-colonial.

Where did you stay in Portofino MD? We usually stay at the Spendido.

I am interested in the Portofino, thing.  Had booked to stay at Rapallo last month, but events conspired against it.

Went to Sorrento a few years back, the Amalfi coast is stunning, great for honeymooners. Positano well worth a visit.

We stayed in Rapallo. From there we took the ferry to Portofino. It was the most stunning place I have ever seen. The weather was perfect for us. I never realised the sea could be so blue. It was part of a road trip round Europe. That is why I have been missing for over 3 weeks.

We also stayed in Rapallo, at the Bristol. Nice enough hotel but didn't like Rapallo itself.

Saint Lucia - always said I would go back and its 25 years next year since utter paradise

Agree about Rapallo. The seafront is lovely but the town itself didn't have much charm.

Aunty post, Honeymoon should just be one word Sir.I'm sure that you dont wish to get your Honeymoons mixed up with a pornstars.Honey Moon is a pornstar who stars in The Duke Of Knockers.As regards a possible destination for a honeymoon ,well it all depends on what your honeymooners are looking for.I know where I would go,I would go to places like Bucharest,Warsaw,st Petersburg,split in croatia there are so many fantastic places and sights to see in eastern Europe.

Amalfi coast is one of my favourite places and particularly Positano.

I think Sorrento would be a great place for a honeymoon.  Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Ercolano, Vesuvius, Capri....

..even managed to take in a football match at Sorrento.

Suppose some people want to sit on a beach....

The plan was to use the trains and do walks around Cinque Terre.

Santa Margherita.Nice walks from there to both Portofino and Rapello.Ischia would be a good honeymoon choice.

I do quite like the Bristol and it has great views from the top floor restaurant but my memories of Rapallo are somewhat tainted. We usually take the BA flight out of London to Genoa but on one particular occasion our bags failed to turn up so we arrived at the hotel with only the clothes we were wearing. "Not a problem" we said, "we'll walk into town and get some replacements until our bags arrive". I think the kindest way to put this is that a lot of towns in Italy 'lag behind' rather compared to the UK. So we ended up buying clothes that only a person twenty or so years older might wear. The coup de grace however was that naturally we needed new underwear, so I helped myself to a pack of men's briefs. Or so I thought anyway. What they actually turned out to be were some kind of hybrid between a thong and a mankini - the type of pants that only Peter Stringfellow should wear........
