This morning, another ill-informed person on another thread described the Leave voters as being "racist" and "nostalgic".
The moment he was asked to explain why someone who wanted to live in a country which made its own laws and controlled its own borders (e.g. Australia. NZ, Canada, and many African sovereign states) was 'racist', he quickly became flummoxed. He quickly decided that 'racist' wasn't perhaps the appropriate word after all, not that it stopped him using it in the first place naturally. Such individuals like to spray the word 'racist' around like confetti at a same-sex marriage. So, let's see if the Opening Poster can do any better. PortmanPark - can you explain to us why the persons who voted to 'Leave' the EU, in order to (e.g.) regain control over their law-making abilities and Border Control, are somehow 'racists' ? Are the African Sovereign countries, for example, who control their own law-making processes and borders ALSO racists? Regarding the ethnic make-up of the persons who voted 'Leave', such as the White, Black, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani heritage voters, are these ALL racists too, or just some of them? Looking forward to a comprehensive explanation. Yours aye. |

Hard to be more racist than an EU which discriminates against everywhere else in the world in every way, from denying immigrants from the rest of the planet the same rights as those within its member states, all the way through to preventing farmers in poor third world countries from selling their produce here in order to protect subsidized and inefficient French producers.

Marine Le Pen has changed her profile pic to a union jack. We are the pride of fascists everywhere. We've really screwed up, Britain.

How do France's internal problems have the potential to "screw up" the UK now please? They might have done up until yesterday.

PP .... The term "racist" is now so freely banded about that like the terms LEGEND and BULLYING it has become meaningless

All through campaigning, anyone who supported Leave has been vilified for being racist, unkind, intolerant and narrow minded bigots.
Since the early hours of this morning I've read and heard more nastiness, intolerance and bigotry from losers who voted remain than I've heard from any brexiters. As an aside and I know it's petty but, I'd like to say that the best part of the whole day was seeing the look on Emily Thornberry's face on BBC this morning. It was drooping so far she looked like the Nazi Storm-trooper who opened the box at the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. ![]() |

That's not racism, that's protectionism and looking after oneself. That's the whole point of the EU, for the member states within it to avoid it and bolster each other with the freer movement of trade. Ofc, now we are in the same position as the African farmer. MUGS.
|
|
By:
Yeah, 'cos tariffs, subsidies and protectionism have an excellent track record for bolstering economies, don't they? I mean, you only have to look at how the success of the Eurozone to see that.

Some very simple people on here trying to suggest that a vote for brexit was racist.
How do they explain Luton voting for leave? Even Newham, voted 47.2% for leave. A bit more complexity of thought is required I suggest. |
|
By:
And how is suddenly having the ability to buy and sell food to the whole world going to leave us in the same position as the African farmer who currently can't?
|
|
By:
I think by using the racist / bigot card, Remain lost a massive amount of votes.
Levelling accusations like that at people, day in day out, just pi$$es people off and makes them more anti. |
|
By:
"Yeah, 'cos tariffs, subsidies and protectionism have an excellent track record for bolstering economies, don't they? I mean, you only have to look at how the success of the Eurozone to see that.Plain"
EXACTLY within the EU you can't play that card, with some exceptions like Betfair have found out. |

age divide in the vote.........most racist are from an older generation.......almost every person I know over 60 is a racist

Next month when I do my weekly shopping and it's increased by 5-10% in price, all I'll think is MUGS.

Correct workrider, but don't expect people who cheaply denigrate African farmers to understand that.

The penny hasn't dropped for postmanprat yet.
It's exactly that sort of sneering condescension that got millions putting a cross in the out box. Politicians have been warned for decades that this was coming, but instead of acknowledging people's concerns they carried on regardless. They deserve everything they got last night and I'm delighted. Nothing more to add. |

brexiters havnt worked out they have lost too
wait until next election, watch them squeal |

You are more likely to be xenophobic or prejudiced if you are older (racism is extreme xenophobia or prejudice and is a word bandied about too frequently to attack people) That's not exactly rocket science. Is there a link between that fact and the Referendum result. Of course there is.
My 79yo dad is bordering racist. It's a generational thing, but he voted remain because he's educated, worked in doing business within Europe and worldwide all his life and he wanted the highest possible standard of living for himself and his kids. Had he been uneducated and not in business, I'm sure he'd have voted out. |
|
By:
Pensioner envy is not an edifying trait, your dad must be so proud of you, does he know what you say about him on a gambling forum. I'm getting bored now, you carry on, empty vessels (like your heid) make the loudest noises.
|
|
By:
My dad knows my views on his ethnic beliefs and he doesn't deny it. He's also a snob and he doesn't deny that either. He and I accept it's a generation thing and neither of us give little thought on the other one's views on that subject. He can be very offensive to other people, but he'd be the first person on the front line leading the troops in a war. He's a very knowledgeable, forthright and intelligent man, and I respect him greatly on many levels.

You've dragged me back for one last post on this thread with that excellent post, it is worthy of respect though I'm not assuming for a second that you would place any value/worth on my opinion, so whether or not you want my respect, you now have it.
I've finished for the moment at least discussing this, and now wondering how we overcome the schism this referendum has caused. |

Immigration mattered, but one poll had it as only our third major concern: Democracy and jobs were more important. Significantly, many ethnic minorities voted for Brexit. Slough voted Leave despite being majority nonwhite.

The screeching accusations of racism probably defines this debate,it has been just about all the Remain camp have been able to come up with.A decade ago that carried weight but now,we have become immune to it and it has little or no impact. It may even be negative as it merely hardens resolve to campaign against those juvenile commentators who use the comment.Politicians who witnessed the effect of Gordon Brown's error with this have to stop looking backwards and learn.
|
|
By:
The racists don't like being called out on their racism, as PM Brown found out.
|
|
By:
immune to being racist , seems fair enough
|
|
By:
it may be a natural, even necessary part of a successful society that some of its people will be racist. Perhaps the more civilised and gifted a country is the more racist it is likely to be, it may be no more than an observation.
|
|
By:
It was a pathetic argument before, and obviously those shouting the Racism card haven't learnt the lesson.
If you concentrated more about reforming the EU and its bureaucratic nonsense and putting in measures to control immigration then Britain would still probably be in the EU rather than now leaving. Sums up the remain camp, sticking their fingers in their ears and just repeating "racists, racists, racists" |
|
By:
no , there are some voted out for other reasons than racism
some racists voted remain as they were racist the other way round but if cap fits carry on wearing it with obvios or oblivious pride |
