Had forgotten all about this song from Rod until I saw a clip of Alan Brazil singing along to it on twitter.
Put the version up with lyrics. Kinda captures the mood of that era.

did not like it. it's like one of my songs I sing in the mornings when i wash in the shower. rambling story of youthful folly.

Does anyone under thirty know who valentino was?

I think peep of that era would see it differently zorro but you stay in your bad mood if it suits you. Wink

Not sure when it was written but Kokomo was released in 1988.
I was only joking from an album released by Rod in the 70s.
A couple of chords in parts very similar but overall quite different.
Seems really dated whilst Rod's still fresh and relevant.

BTW Could have been written with Kenny Mann in mind.
I wonder if they are friends. Grin

very beautiful and nostalgic song akabula. When Rod sings it seems so easy and natural.
Brings back memories of youth and happy times, but the sounds stab too sweetly.Happy

BTW although a shortish clip Brazil does it justice and definitely relates to it.

Me and the boys thought we had it sussed
Valentinos all of us
My Dad said we looked ridiculous
But boy we broke some hearts

Brilliant stuff and sung as only he can.

Never found a compromise
Collected lovers like butterflies
Illusions of that grand first prize
Are slowly wearin' thin
Susie, baby, you were good to me
Giving love unselfishly
But you took it all too seriously
I guess it had to end

Lots of unrest in Rothesay Foxy.
Private accommodation laid on for the immigrants along with bank accounts (fully loaded) and gifts galore.
Local residents non too happy especially those unable to get housing themselves.
Lovely wee place btw.
