Cameron will be delighted that Farage is now the OUT poster boy. Very popular with his supporters, but there is a reason why he has tried and failed to become an MP on seven (!) different occasions. Will turn-off many more than he attracts and the referendum will be won or lost on the undecideds.

In this Cameron tells us that we have nothing to fear by coming out of EU. And this is Nov 2015.

The best long term result for Farage/Ukip is probably a narrow remain win. If that happens there's going to be millions of disgruntled voters especially from Tory and Labour.

Tories - pro EU
Labour - pro EU
Lib Dems - pro EU
Greens - pro EU
SNP - pro EU
Plaid - pro EU

Ukip - anti EU

We have seen how well Cameron negotiates on behalf of the U.K. So if we vote out he says he will stay on as PM, but surely most people would want him to go !

Cameron's U turn from 2005 is perhaps acceptable as we can all change our mind in 10 years but to listen to him telling us in Nov 2015 we can survive outside the EU is totally unbelievable. The man loses all credibility.

Cameron will indeed be delighted that Farage is more prominent in the Leave campaign. Farage is a busted flush and fortunately isn't taken seriously by a huge majority of the British people. He's a great communicator but a one-topic politician trying to lead a party of Little Englanders who stray very close to racism. It's just another attempt to make this issue about immigration rather than the true agenda which is largely about self-governance and the economy.
I think there's a very good chance that Remain might turn out to be one of the bets of the year.

Agree Burton, it's definitely the public's main concern. But us being in or out will have much less effect on the culture of the nation or subsequent migration than say the effect on small businesses. I guess immigration is much more emotive so it's not a surprise to see it to the fore. Take that out of the picture and turnout would be a LOT lower and Remain would absolutely walk it.

What is wrong with governing ourselves, we vote for who we want to run our country, whats the point if the EU can overrule us, its undemocratic.
Surely being able to dictate who comes to our country, and who we can deport is common sense, 30/40 years ago, scaremongering may have worked because the people knew no different, but its a different world nowadays, people are much more informed through the internet and social media,
so people can see that all the  scaremongering and  bull5hit coming out of cameron and osbournes mouth , is simply that..
The only people who want us to stay are the rich politicians who are putting there own agenda ahead of the working class , and the other EU countries who know that if we leave, it'll be the end of the gravy train we supply them

Nothing wrong with that at all, dambuster. Agree with a lot of what you say. Self-governance is key. I think we have that though. But we also 'belong to a club' and there are rules in that. I think that the EU is a very long way from a perfect organisation. It seems pretty clear that there's terrible waste and a degree of self-interest from EU politicians (ours included) that is impossible to justify.

The way I'm approaching it is a simple choice - will my country be better off in the EU overall or worse off? I think we're better off being in and trying to reform it than attempting that from the outside. As such I'll vote Remain.

Agree that there's a lot of scaremongering from Cameron etc. But there's just as much from the opposition. Some of that is fair and reasonable (plus, hey - that's politics). The stuff around immigration is very divisive and dangerous though.

I do disagree that the only people who want us to stay are the rich politicians. The middle class (which now encompasses most of what would have been the old working class) would have a strong representation in the Remain camp. And why has the middle class grown so much? Because we're a demonstrably richer country than we were a generation or 2 ago. Free trade is part of that and is vital for our continued prosperity. That's more likely in the EU than out. Not essential, but more likely.

I would feel better off if I didn't see houses being built on every bit of available land to house the ever expanding population and if I could travel somewhere without being stuck in a traffic jam caused by too many vehicles because there's too many people now living here. Of course if we stay in it's only going to get worse because there are no plans to control the population and their needs.

With net migration at 350k a year, rents can only go up. Wages must remain stagnant and strain on public services must increasse, leading to higher taxes.

How can we possibly be better off in the EU?

Personally I'm sick of all the financial talk. I'm more interested in the cultural and spiritual identity of this nation which is changing and will change forever.

Anyone watching this afternoon's event at the Mall will be staggered to learn London is a multiracial and multicultural city.

The crowds of people celebrating the event are almost exclusively white. There is more Diversity amongst the BBC Studio pundits than in the crowd.

We should be f*cking grateful that we've got Farage.

You might not like him, you might not agree with him, but you only have to have a look across to Europe to look at the sort of parties representing national self interest to think of the horrific alternatives. As a corollary, the BNP got over half a million votes in the 2010 election; they got less than 1700 in the 2015 one.

The simple fact is, that if there is only one party campaigning for national self interest and governance, often a party which is prepared to brazenly reject the left-leaning sensibilities that have become the norm, voters are prepared to condone all manner of extreme and unpleasant ideas which are widely endorsed within the party, just so they can be heard and represented on issues that no other party is prepared to broach.

I chuckle at the ad hominems thrown in Nigel's direction. Would people rather we had Jimmie Åkesson  or Nick Griffin representing peoples' dissatisfaction?
