Sir David was reading the words of Michael Bond, the author of Paddington Bear, who was seated to his right in service, probably does not believe in the God related baloney.

The words are from a poem written in 1908 by Minnie Haskins.  They became famous because they were read by King George VI in his 1939 Christmas Day radio broadcast.  I think it was chosen for the day as a tribute. Hth

Everything in the old testament was reinforced by Jesus in words and actions. All the miracles Christ did are nothing more than an assertion of his authority. He came only to fulfill the act of sacrifice. The blood of the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.

The old testament is LAW, the new testament is Grace.
Man dies under law by being condemned. Nobody can be righteous by his own actions. but by accepting christ as your saviour, accepting you have no claim to righteousness, confessing all sins past and future. You can go before god with your jewish high priest called yeshua and claim the kingdom of God.

Adam lost his authority to SATAN, Satan has ruled and death came into creation. But victory can be claimed through Christ. Everyday across the world Death rules. Corruption rules. Greed etc. This has nothing to do with god. God's mercy is in christ and eternity. not 100 years. Carpe diem - pluck the fruit.
