The irish people do not want to pay for water as a fixed bill.they would rather pay for it out of general taxation .But big brother in Europe says "sorry Ireland you will do what you are told to do"so now the talk in the cities, towns and streets of Ireland is"sorry Europe we will not have an other austerity bill, and so for that reason and that reason alone we are out.
How does that song go"there may be trouble ahead, lets face the music and dance"

I wish it were so.

The EU are going to impose fines on Ireland for scrapping water charges.
Sadly Ireland are still in favour of the EU,this in spite of the fact that the EU forced Ireland to take on debt that wasn't ours to save the Euro.

The incredible irony to me is Sinn Fein and the SNP both want independence from Britain where they have a huge say in what goes but want to be ruled by an undemocratic evil empire, the EU.

the EU really is the germans and the French.nobody else counts ,they germans make the rules and vote in every rule that makes their country richer and stronger, and the French back them up and get big backhanders for support.
EU really means you do what the germans tell you to do,and thay are so rich now they can rule everyone.
Report brassneck June 2, 2016 12:16 AM BST
And BREXIT is not a fair vote because Germany have pumped millions and millions into the stay in vote to convince the british people that they will be worse off if they are not in Europe, and a no vote from the british people is the last hope for all the people of Europe.all the countries in the EU are bolloxed but they spin it like its a strong stable economy .
believe me Germany will destroy England if they vote yes.your country will end up with millions of refugees and no work for anyone.
while Germany do all the controlling.
Report wildmanfromborneo June 2, 2016 12:29 AM BST
Agree with Brassneck here.

Germany got the Euro to be the exact same as the Deuschmark, were annoyed Britain didnt join.
They need Britain not only as a market but as a net contributor to the EU.
Germany have formed a tacit alliance with France and they will always outvote Britain.

Get out while ye can.
Report Blackrock June 2, 2016 11:05 AM BST
Yet every news item in Ireland is telling Britain to stay in. Even going as far as ridiculing Farrage for leading the OUT vote.
Report wildmanfromborneo June 2, 2016 1:00 PM BST
Correct Blackrock,that's the establishment.

Its big business, the political elite and the wealthy that love the EU here same as in Britain.
Its brought in cheap labour and huge subsidies for wealthy farmers.
Its now calling all those groups it previously funded looking for payback.

What is odd is that neither the LEAVE nor REMAIN campaigns are saying anything about this -- that imposing water charges against the wishes of the Irish people is either (according to taste):

  1) an unjustifiable intrusion, or

  2) an essential part of the single market and European ideal.

Eire went bust.  It agreed to impose water charges as a way of paying back their debt.

"Ireland may leave the European Union over Water Charges"

FFS........this is so f*ckin ludicrous I'm a bit annoyed I'd comment on it.

Ireland isn't leaving the EU any time soon, very pro-EU -- statement of fact - what UK does has no bearing on their attitude.  Whether they are right or wrong is irrelevant
Report brassneck June 3, 2016 12:32 AM BST
there was a vote a few years back called the Lisbon deal, where it was agreed that all the countries would have their own final word on tax decisions. Now the germans say"listen Ireland you will pay for your water the way we say you pay for it,"
but the funny thing is that Germany themselves pay for their water out of general taxation but will not allow any other country pay this way"
And when the **** hit the fan a few years back and the irish banks went bust Germany made Ireland pay the bond holders 65 billion they owed.and who were the bond holders?=the german fat cats.
Report brassneck June 3, 2016 12:43 AM BST
Ireland will leave if England say no ,otherwise they would never survive,so I guess they will use the water excuse if they have to leave.the irish people have had enough of Germany and their rules, and if England join that's the end for all.
ENGLAND are the only country that can take on Germany but if they fall into the trap of voting yes its the end of England as we know it.It will be Germany owned Germany ruled and Germany governed within 5 years.and it will be too late.
look what they have done to all the other countries in the European union.germany decide on everything and England will be no different.
Report brassneck June 3, 2016 1:02 AM BST
the germans have already told Ireland that they will not be allowed trade with England directly if England vote to stay out ,and Ireland would have to trade with England through the European union.
now England also have massive trade with Ireland ,so the bottom line is that Germany are tightening the screw to crush both countries.
Germany want England to vote yes and then they have the power, the money ,and the votes(with the help of france)to rule England in every way.And all the fat cats on all sides will get richer.
Report brassneck June 3, 2016 1:33 AM BST
And as soon as England vote to stay in all the migrants will take a boat to wexford(10 million of them)walk up to newry co down and claim british citizenship. And ANGELA'S plan has worked. And no borders to stop them.in other words its german blackmail.lose all your trade England if you vote no,or take 10 million refugees if you vote yes.
And people said Angela was crazy when she said to the migrants come to Europe.
its called conquering Europe without using one bullet.clever plans by the german brains.

Not everyone in Britain pays the water supplier directly.

The default position in Scotland is no water meters, the fresh water supply and sewerage is paid from council taxes. However, if a householder believes he can save money on fresh water by having a water meter installed, he can do so at his own expense and have a decrease in council tax. Sewerage is still paid via council tax.

Those who get their council tax paid for them via the benefits system still have to pay for water if they have a meter.

Ireland also have an agricultural based economy. Farmers will be subsided by the EU.

I don't think they would want to come out, they would lose out.

I wonder how the Irish ever managed before the EU? Oh, that's right. They exported their agricultural produce, their fish, their lawn linen, their Waterford crystal and their hardworking labour all over the world. The only time the Irish ever needed the English, they were let down badly. Just like the Scots. I'm sure Ireland will survive without the EU as will Scotland.

If that sounds like I want England's Celtic cousins to leave England alone, I'm sorry. These islands would be better off together but I don't think I'll live long enough to see it. There's too much bad feeling at the moment. The most I can hope for is peace between us.
Report Foinavon June 4, 2016 11:44 PM BST
When The UK applied to join the then Common Market, both Ireland and Denmark did the same.
Why? Because both were dependent on the UK continuing to take their agricultural exports.
If the UK does leave the EU both countries are likely to be first in line to petition Brussels to maintain the current free trade arrangements.

I am talking about Ireland.ireland is the 4th wealthiest in the EU.IF the uk sign up they will be governed by EU rules, thats what the yes vote means,Germany and France combined will be able to vote down the UK vote in the European union once they sign up,THE UK will lose the power to govern themselves, now at this moment in time it is dresses up with spin to be a great idea and a No vote will destroy UK trade. What it doesn't say is that the UK will divide into two classes of people ,rich and poor, there will be no middle class,or working class, just rich and poor, controlled and ruled by the germans within 2 years time.
its happened in all the other countries in the EU and England, scotland, wales, and northern Ireland will be no different.

brassneck - you really do talk some shyte.

What UK does or doesn't do in terms of EU membership doesn't impact the extremely pro-EU stance of the Irish. I live in Ireland - well a significant amount of the time - their media is discussing UK exit, but the conversation is "better for us if they stay", "potentially big problem if they leave - but we should look at turning it to our advantage". Which is fair enough, why would they think any other way? They are clever buggers when it comes to devising schemes and policies for economic advantage - they drive the French crazy, beating them at their own game - but they will miss their ally (the UK) in this regard if they leave.
