Ma nuit chez Maude by Eric Rohmer. -Jean- Louis Trintignant and Françoise Fabian.

You would enjoy this Zorro as there is a long discussion of Pascal's Wager and other religion/morality themes.

Ma nuit chez Maude - think I saw that twenty years ago? will try and see it again. You miss a lot with one showing. Forgot a film I sought out last year - The Exterminating Angel (1962) Luis Bunuel. Saw it years ago it stays with you.

House of Games (1987) ‧ Thriller/Drama ‧ 1h 42m

After one of her patients threatens suicide, psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse) confronts the source of his anxieties, a downtown bookie named Mike (Joe Mantegna). Once she decides that Mike is not a serious threat, however, she herself becomes interested in his world of high-stakes gambling, and makes use of her skills at reading "tells," becoming entrenched in his dealings. Things get dangerous, though, when Mike turns out not to be a bookie at all, but a con man.

Initial release: October 11, 1987 (USA)

Once Were Warriors - powerful Maori drama - not sure whether you'd class it as mainstream (I'll apologise now if you do), as I don't know how much coverage or viewing it received here, as it came out around the time I happened to be in New Zealand.

Bad boy bubby. If you can get past the first half an hour, which is very disturbing its a great comedy drama.

The Wanderers. Excellent coming of age / gang drama with a cool soundtrack.

House of Whipcord. Proper 70s British horror, still has overtones of societies problems today.
