‘Praise Allah’ bus slogans get green light just months after Lord’s Prayer ad gets banned

BUS adverts are set to carry a slogan praising Allah just months after a clip featuring the Lord’s prayer was banned from cinemas.

The slogan reads ‘Subhan Allah’ – which translates as ‘Glory be to God’ – and will feature on hundreds of buses across the country as part of a campaign by the Islamic Relief.

The group have targeted the ad campaign to raise money for victims of the Syrian Civil War during the holy month of Ramadan in June, when muslims traditionally fast and give to charity.

But the campaign has caused anger among some Christian groups after an advert featuring the lords prayer was banned from UK cinemas in the run up to Christmas.

The advert, which featured the Archbishop of Canterbury along with a variety of parishioners reciting the Lord’s prayer, was banned from Odean, Cineworld and Vue cinemas.

Former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe said: “If other religions are allowed to put their religious banners up, then so should Christians.”

Unlike cinema advertising regulators, Transport for London does not have any rules against religious advertising.

However former London mayor Boris Johnson stepped in when a Christian group attempted to run an advertising campaign calling for gay people to “get over” their homosexuality in 2012.

Andrea Williams said: “Britain is a Christian country and we Christians need to find our voice.

If we are allowing these adverts for Islam, then we need to give the Christians far more freedom to express themselves.”

The posters are set to appear in areas with large Muslim communities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leicester and Bradford.

Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute was hopeful the Islamic relief campaign would signal “the beginning of a new era of greater expressions of the Christian faith, which seems to have become persona non grata”

He added: “People were surprised by the cinema advertising agenda to ban the Lord's Prayer – something we all grew up with.
Audiences are capable of hearing expressions of Christian faith without running away screaming in horror.”

Islamic relief, who have helped more than 100 million people since it was started in 1984 are hoping the posters will raise money to aid victims of the bloody Syrian conflict, as well as helping to paint Islam in a positive light.

Charity Director Imran Madden said: “There is a lot of negativity around Muslims.

“We want to change the perception of Islam. The campaign is about breaking down barriers and challenging misconceptions.”

The contrast appears to be with cinemas. I'm pretty sure I've seen Christian adverts on buses. (Tbh I'd ban all religious advertising.)

I do not think this should be allowed.

There is being fair there is being stupid, we are stupid.

I think the basic problem is we have no belief in ourselves any more as a country, we give ourselves away to anyone.

We once had an Empire, we had strong industries we where Christian

We have given all this away, we are lost.

If we do not vote to come out of the EU it will confirm this to me.

I am not sure whether this is a wind up.

Sadiq Khan the new London Mayor is a Muslim, which is perfectly legitimate, since we allow personal religious belief.

But as London Mayor his is responsible for a multi faith population. So his first duty is to ban this advertisement.

Otherwise everything people have feared, that he will be use his position to advance his own religion, will be true.

The advert is for Syrian relief, that is ok, but they need to remove the word Allah, would be my suggestion.

Bit of a non-story here tbf.

Buses and cinemas do not exactly have the same policy regarding religious advertising.

Poor IAN Mohammed, he can't stop himself can he?

At the weekend IAN was even pretending to support women in their struggles on the deleted 'Jail Bait' thread. IAN was quiet as a mouse though when the women of Germany were being sexually molested and raped all across Germany by the sort of 'refugees' (i.e. Chancer Migrants) he wanted welcomed throughout Europe.

IAN had even less to say in support of the sexually-underaged white girls groomed and raped on an industrial scale by paedophiles "of Pakistani Heritage" in any number of Socialist Multicultural paradises across the UK.

And needless to say IAN had no criticism of Labour in respect of the Segregated Meetings they held in constituencies where their core vote is the Anti-Semitic Block Postal/Proxy vote.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. Transport for London, which is responsible for buses in London, is accountable to the London Assembly.

The London Assembly has its own petitions process. You can find out more about how to petition the London Assembly here:

London elects a Muslim Mayor on Friday.

On Monday we have buses appearing emblazoned with the word 'Allah is Great'.

Your fears could be justified Ron.

This is sending a message of course.

From the Standard.

It comes as London has just elected Sadiq Khan as the city’s first Muslim mayor following an historic victory over Tory candidate Zac Goldsmith.

The capital is home to about half of Britain's estimated three million Muslims.

Transport for London, which regulates the advertisements appearing on the city’s buses, does not allow posters linked to a “political party or campaign” but does not prevent religious ads.

Former mayor Boris Johnson scrapped adverts by a Christian charity on buses after it was accused of claiming to “cure” gay people

Time for Sadiq to step in & stop it! Crazy
