Police corruption thriller Line of Duty has pipped Wolf Hall to become BBC2’s biggest drama series since modern TV ratings began 14 years ago.
The third series of the Jed Mercurio drama, which comes to an end on Thursday, attracted a consolidated audience of 4.9 million viewers, an 18.7% share of the audience, for its first four episodes.
Starring Martin Compston, Keeley Hawes, Daniel Mays and Vicky McClure, it is BBC2’s biggest-rating drama since at least 2002, when a new method of measuring TV audiences was introduced.

Last 10 minutes was poor ....again . She must be some athlete to run that distance carrying a large gun and yet still able to pick off the vehicle from a distance ........biathletes have to slow down approaching the range to get their pulse down or they miss .....

he sent a a text to his mate outside who then machine gunned his mate and went on the run chased only by fearless bint also with machine gun, whilst everyone flapped around. Bloke is picked up b paramilitary paedo ring but is shot a mile away by a well aimed machine-gun round, everything blows up, deathbed confession, can't be bothered to film any more so here's a few notes on what happened thereafter.

Would you have preferred Cotton to have held his hands up, admit everything and take him down to the cells?
This is supposed to be entertaining (as well as educational).

Kate should have taken the machine gun, abseiled out of the window, picked up the real Keeley Hawes (twist alert: the one that was shot in the head was just a twin / android or whatever) stormed the police station, broken into Steve's cell and then all three of them get it on. That would have been entertaining and not significantly more far-fetched
Meanwhile Dot should have got away with it all and the final scene is Cliff driving the getaway car

Exactly, if it was all about keeping drooling simpletons entertained for an hour a week then they could have just recommissioned Spooks. This was going so well, then it was "Feck, the hour's nearly up, what do we do?".

Agree with everything said about the ending. It was very poor. Up to then it was a magnificent series as was series 2. I'd rather remember it for that than the last 10 minutes. Great cast particularly Keeley Hawes who stole every scene she was in and Adrian Dunbar.

It was one of the most ridiculus 90mins of TV I've sat through. Id give it 1/10
The episode started off with flaws everywhere and just went downhill. It could have been written by a primary school child.

They think Nigel Clough's the caddy and everyone just sits round a table all pally. They ask the real guy to come in and suddenly there's 2 guys in the middle of the office with Heckler Koch's guarding the door!
Last week's show was one of the best around but this week's was frankly ridiculus. He gets away in a car which goes down the slip road and then drives round the copper in a circle till she can do her best Chris Kyle impression and take the driver out from quarter a mile away.

'There's a car waiting' Dot said as he ran off with the armed police guard.
Rather than getting picked up by a car miles away why didn't they have someone mooching around on a motorbike ready to pick him up straight from the police station?!
I won't be watching any season 4

This series jumped the shark imo. Jed Mercurio (the writer) obviously feels very strongly about child sex abuse but his determination to ram it down our throats meant this series lacked the moral ambiguity of the first two series, the backstory with the caddy did not really fit the new story, the Cyril Smith character was silly and the ending was absurd.
And that is betting without killing off the most interesting character and the best actor.
But I can't wait for the next series.

I liked it thought it was a good series all in all but to see Kate give chase in her (work) plimpsols was a bit LOL and the obv Fake photo of Jimmy Saville complete with Wonky long cigar was funniest
Did wonder when the subtitles came up near the end to tell what became of the characters , was it a True story

I enjoyed it very much but are we really supposed to believe that Hastings would turn down the chance of a bunk up with the delectable Polly Walker?
She'd make a good dog break it's leash.
