Just consider the chaps on here most troubled, indeed obsessed by the topic;

Wildmanfromborneo (middle of nowhere, Ireland)
Alun (Whales)
EO (Northern most tip of Scotland)
Ron Russian/CMAT  (Norfolk)

(Apologies to the other Big Cheeses on the Committee that I have carelessly omitted)

All linked by their rural location.

A German friend of mine mentioned to me yesterday that the Germans most troubled by such matters were those in areas with relatively few Immigrants/Muslims/Refugees/Pesky foreigners.  It got me thinking.  Perhaps she was merely refering to parts of the old East Germany where attitudes remained frozen for 50 years behind The Iron Curtain, missing out of several decades of evolution of related thought, gradual acceptance of diversity etc.

Or is there something more to it?  Perhaps the above Gentlemen deliberately choose relative isolation to insulate and protect themselves?  Or is it that they have been less exposed to their Bogey Men and their fear is partly fear of the unfamiliar?

Apologies if I have incorrectly drawn any nefarious conclusions about locales etc.  You are a considerable collections of wordsmiths, please don't retaliate en masse.  Just chew over the question in an abstract, detached fashion and see if you can find any merit or otherwise in the theory?

I've meet hundreds of Muslims in my life and never had one threaten me or make me feel that way, most people's fear stems from what they read and see in the media, it's called a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny minority of extremists.

Must everything affect you directly ?

I see the greatest civilisation this world has known under threat from a barbaric religion that is incompatible with Western values.
Its not as if Islam are hiding their intentions, they keep on telling us what they want.
They even had the decency to explain how they were going to use the refugee crisis to flood Europe with Jihadists.
They have explained Taharush and what's in store for women.

Sadly our political elite treat Islam like Cassandra.

I agree Trilby, but sometimes we have to laugh or we would cry

I do not fear Muslims myself

I think the trouble with the Muslims has been caused by the gross incompetence of Western governments.

Why invade Middle Eastern countries which are no threat to us, because we have now created a risk of terrorismCrazy

Also why did we allow so many Muslims in our country in the first place. Because we are destroying the Britishness

of our society which does frighten some people.Crazy

What can one say since our own governments have done this to us??????????????????, sometimes all one can do is laugh

If you went to schools with Muslims, lived on the same estate or street as Muslims, worked with Muslims and actually spoke to one, the last thing you would feel is fear, I'm no fan of religion whatsoever, I just take people as I find them, and I have never once felt threatened, but hysteria and far rightism I guess can do that to a man.
Report akabula April 25, 2016 10:48 PM BST
The problem with you Scandi and the other apologists on here is that you base your opinions on the very small %age of Muslims you have met.
ie the very small %age of Muslims who have embraced integration and mix freely.
I'ts the very large majority who group together and refuse to accept our culture who are the problem though.
Look at what is preached in the Mosques. Nothing acceptable but their religion and nothing acceptable but their way of life.
Report scandanavian_haven April 25, 2016 11:11 PM BST
well I don't remember saying sorry on anyone's behalf, I can only speak from experience, and in my experience I've never felt intimidated by anyone who is a Muslim, also on integration, what does this even mean because when I've been to Spain, I assure the ex pats do not sit amongst Spanish people speaking Spanish talking about Spanish politics or the weather, they tend to do what first generation immigrants in Britain do, gravitate towards people who are from a similar background, but the second generation Brits in Spain go to Spanish school and live the outdoor Spanish life mixing with their Spanish friends in the same way the second generation Muslims in Britain do, those Muslims I have met integrated very well indeed. Moeen Ali seems to integrate well with the English National Cricket team.

Brits abroad have a terrible reputation, they binge drink and cause chaos and mess all over Europe in the summer months and in popular stag night cities like Riga, the mayor there called the British pigs, because they urinated on statues. Where is the respect for other people's culture and history there?

I'm not defending what's written in the Qu'ran or any religious texts. I'm defending the character of the people I have met, I do wonder how many you have personally met, I would hazard it's not very many up on the Scottish coast ?
Report akabula April 25, 2016 11:26 PM BST
You are correct not that many and none of them held extremist views but that does not diminish the threat that their religion holds.

I think Islam is a barbaric religion,Scandinavian haven is judging it on the guy that serves him his takeaway.

Scandinavian haven is like many on the Left a hater of his own country.
Having first defended Islam he then goes on a tirade against his fellow countrymen,he says they don't integrate, they have terrible reputations,he then gleefully talks about them urinating on statues.
He ends up by triumphantly saying that Brits have no respect for others culture and history.

This type of individual supports the replacement of Brits ( he doesn't really like him ) with nice people from abroad.
He would start by letting all those gentlemen congregating around Calais in.
Report scandanavian_haven April 26, 2016 12:03 AM BST
You really must be a wild man from Borneo because that would be the kind of knuckle dragging reply I would expect from one Laugh

'hates his own country' is the usual predictable go to phrase when someone dares says anything positive about immigration or remotely close. I don't remember praising Islam either, I remember rejecting the tarring all Muslims with the same brush paragraph.

Akabula says I'm an apologist, but I didn't say sorry for anyone, now you are saying I am judging a whole religion because of the guy that servers me a takeaway, but I never mentioned a takeaway guy, if you a reasonable debate at the very least not making stuff up out of thin air might aid your cause, but atm it's hard to take you seriously when you insist on taking everything out context.

Can I ask you a question and can you give an honest answer, if you had the choice to remove every mosque and every Muslim from the country, would you and why ?
Report Eeternaloptimist April 26, 2016 12:24 AM BST
Seeing as I've been mentioned my experiences of Muslims was largely from my early teens to late 20's and of course I can only speak from personal experience which was largely positive. They were generally welcoming and friendly. I have no fear of them.

The only downside is that they weren't generally the best mixers but who could blame them as it was the tail end of Pakki bashing and they had these strange double standards about women. White girls may been of easy virtue in terms of the ones my mates came into context with but their views were positively neanderthal.

Strangely they drank, gambled and rutted to excess which meant they were my kind of people but their attitudes and hypocrisy relating to women was staggering.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 26, 2016 1:06 AM BST
I wouldn't remove every mosque or every Muslim.

I would stop importing them and stop funding them.
When people cite the Mulims they know they really mean lapsed Muslims and them lads are in trouble if Sharia law comes in.

Any mosque preaching sedition should be closed down.
Imams should not be allowed multiple wives, should not get multiple homes from the state, they shouldn't even get the dole
