Double the number of celebrities have died in the first three months of this year compared to 2015, figures show.

According to research by BBC Radio 4 show More or Less, 24 celebrity obituaries have been written already this year compared to just 12 over the same time period in 2015.

The organisation says the spike is probably down to a boom in the number of celebrities born in the 1950s - when there was more ways to be famous than before.

Not a fan of most women comedians, but she was funny. a genuine talent and a lovely woman.

I know that but points being it feels like with so many unconquered diseases we're all dodging bullets, if our diet was as clean as 200 years ago we would avoid many of the cancers that people are diagnosed with, they had deficiencies with a lack of certain vitamins but there was at least no processed foods like there are today, western diet is to blame for a lot. And stress.

62 years is young nowadays. RIP
Report scandanavian_haven April 20, 2016 7:59 PM BST
Think people are missing my point, if we went back to not consuming processed foods, whilst having the advantage of today's advances in medicine, the number of people suffering from Diabetes and cancers would drop significantly, there were not many cases of either before the introduction of sucrose laden foods which seems to be in everything.

62 is young to some but when so many go at that age and younger to such common illnesses like cancer it's not exactly a great surprise.

Only last week I watched all the Acorn Antiques on youtube. Very sad, always remember her joke(I take it it was her joke, she certainly told it in standup) about going on holiday and that she knew the plane was old because she had to sit next to the rear to the rear gunner, always liked that one . As has been said 62 is no age.

Life expectancy figures are skewed by the high infant mortality rate:

But the inclusion of infant mortality rates in calculating life expectancy creates the mistaken impression that earlier generations died at a young age; Americans were not dying en masse at the age of 46 in 1907. The fact is that the maximum human lifespan — a concept often confused with "life expectancy" — has remained more or less the same for thousands of years. The idea that our ancestors routinely died young (say, at age 40) has no basis in scientific fact.

Report scandanavian_haven April 20, 2016 11:23 PM BST
It depends how you look at it, 62 to young people is fairly old(ish) but the thing is for women it's just 3 years away from retirement age, when you're that close to the end of your working life, it's not surprising that, especially in this day and age, things can take their toll by then. Having said that I'm convinced if refined sugar was completely banned from all foods today that everyone will be living to a ripe old age in a few years, diabetes and cancers are partly a result in the consumption of excess refined sugars, all cells need glucose for energy, not an excess amount of sucrose.

Methuselah reached 300 not many reach that nowadays....not any actually.

I think our lives are considerably safer now than in the past, we have cured a lot of diseases that used to kill us, we do not
have famines, well not in Europe..Africa maybe, and at the moment we are not living in a time of War.

Which explains the average increased life expectancy in this report?

One problem we have is that our lives are much more sedentary than they used to be. So we are probably not getting enough exercise to keep us fit.

Human Beings like all animals prefer tasty food, things like sugar and fat make it tasty, and it is more affordable than in the past.

People blame food manufacturers, but it is fact people buy food because it is tasty not because it tastes like crud. They give us the food
we want because that is good business.

But this often means people become addicted to it, we forget our balanced diet. So I assume this has caused an increase in cancer.

But since we have cured such a lot of diseases, the truth may be that if we had cured these diseases in the past people may well have
died of cancer at the same rate they are now??????????????????

Tricky?

Sugar, you mean? It'd be a shock if it weren't down to glucose in some specific way as that is what the cancer cell uses to grow.

Yes Flower.

It is easy to live on take aways, there are cheap sweets, chocky bars etc.

One reason we may not admit. Is if people don't smoke, and we don't like people to drink alcohol

I am afraid they are going to turn to the sweet stuff
