Always been a big 60's fan, the beatles are the greatest for me. Never really listened to the stone roses, dismissed them completely without really listening. Just discovered their first album on youtube. Wow , totally blown away. Probably the greatest collection of songs on an album SINCE the beatles.
For once I agree. The second album got a panning in some quarters and it was a bit indulgent of Squires but there were some decent songs on that as well. The first album was magical though.

The first album (rightly) gets plenty of limelight, with 'The Second Coming' getting panned by many when it came out, probably because the expectation could never live up to the reality at the time.
Listen to it in isolation though and there's some absolute gems in there, with 'Tears' standing up to anything the band ever did.
Ian Brown still has the weediest voice of any lead 'singer' ever though!

"I am very excited, for them mainly," Gallagher told NME of the band's return. "They're going to play some new songs. I bumped into Ian in a supermarket recently. He was buying chocolate flavoured shower gel. This is not a joke. He leant and said 'have you tried this?' and I said of course I hadn't. He swears by it, says it's amazing. And before it turned into a photoshoot with everyone and their cameraphones, he was telling me how excited they are by it all. He said it was like they were making their first record again." TheChaser 19 Apr 16 10:53 You know they refused to support the Rolling Stones in 1989
"They should be supporting us!" I actually saw the Stones on that (1990) tour at Wembley. The support was some w@nk Scottish band that I've thanfully never heard of since - Gun.
I was at Spike Island too!

Could have been as big as the Beatles but opted to go down the nowhere-near-as-big-as-Oasis route.
Let's not get carried away here. They made ONE truly exceptional album, fudged the follow-up, and hosted a train-wreck of a career-defining gig.
Btw, Brown may indeed have the 'weediest voice' of any lead singer ever, but some of his solo stuff is excellent too. Forget everything and remember.

Mikael be hard to live up to older ones for sure , but i don't think they would be send something out that is not going to be different.Hope it's going to be good anyway , probably plenty old stuff in there that was never released in the 80s that will stand up today.

The sound wasn't the only problem, even if it was the biggest offender. There was only one bar and it had a queue so long we thought 'fck it.' There was no support to speak of, just a bunch of MCs and DJs, which might have been fine if you weren't stuck there all day. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time - including initiating the game of 6-a-side footie that turned into about 23-a-side, ultimately ruined by crazy Leeds fans - but the gig has a semi-mythical status it doesn't really deserve.

It seemed an eternity from them being championed in Manchester as the next big thing and the album arriving. Piccadilly Radio played them a lot before they broke big .
The first album is a belter .

so it its just me... yeh the songs are good but the delivery (live) is poor , the band would have been a far better success with a lead vocalist who was worthy, .. "expect to be shot down in flames.."
