Food would be cheaper if we exit the EU,  remember the days before the common market when Argentina and other South American countries where our main suppliers of meat and cereals, Joining the Common Market meant the common agricultural policy, and the loss of access to much cheaper food.

Remember all the industrial unrest of 70s? The main driving force was hyper inflation, higher food prices was the primary cause of the hyper inflation that lead to pressure on wages that lead to higher wage demands, that eventually lead to Britain becoming bogged down in industrial unrest.

Also on the subject of food people still needed to eat, so the food industry became very adventurous first creating a multitude of ready meals and even more adventurous with what it put in those meals.
Little wonder we have an obesity and health crisis today. We never joined the Common Market for economical reasons, that simply does not make sense why would a group of countries who manufactured the same things and grew and produced the same things lock themselves into a trading block?

The reason we joined the Common Markets was the cold war. The Soviet Union was a massive threat and came within a hairs breath of taking control of the whole of Europe.
We could no longer count on the Americans; they had been itching to get out of Vietnam since 1968 uprisings. The American people were sick of sending their young men to die in foreign wars and who can blame them at the time? The Vietnam War was the third war in as many decades.
No joining the Common Market on economic grounds never made any logical sense not now and not then.

while the worlds population grows.

The US created the post war prosperity, not Europe.

Food was absolutely cheaper before we went into the Common Market, and it was food price rises that ruined our economy.

errrr then eu migration boomed the economy and propped it up after subprime.

all due to being in the eu

The standard of living has been in decline in Britain for at least 30 years, no boom and no benefit from mass immigration.
Report G1_Jockey_4 • April 18, 2016 2:43 PM BST
no way were we better off 30 years ago.

things started to get good in the late 90s...and boomed till subprime.

this was as a direct result of businesses taking advantage of being able to fill jobs with eastern europeans.

then subprime hit everyone....some more than others.

Britain underwent the greatest increase in living standards for the average person between 1950 and through to about 1980, almost greater than any time in history.
Report G1_Jockey_4 • April 18, 2016 3:02 PM BST
greatest increase yes....the increase in the 90s was an increase due to eu immigration
Report macarony • April 18, 2016 3:12 PM BST
increase in what? debt, demand on housing and services nothing good has come from mass immigration.
Report lfc1971 • April 18, 2016 3:16 PM BST
Immigration takes its time to have an effect. Of course Britain and Europe could sustain some immigration, even quite large immig, if we still had the industrial and scientific ability. We don`t, Europes decline was halted temp. in the 1980s because of the inventiveness of the US and the computer revolution in the mid 70s creating millions of jobs.
Britain is no longer capable of doing this and no matter how many millions of cheap labour you cannot build an economy on that.

It going to be fun watching the UK leave, then after a few years asking to join again.
