Great film Annie although I should remind you Germany is landlocked
It isn't dontwin, surely? Anyway they must have filmed the interior scenes in germany

I always thought that Das Boot was filmed in Timpsons. 
G2D can't log in but asked me to mention Pißchen und Fïsten.
lfc I was going to say that, but when I looked it up it had been filmed in Holland & England.

Didn't like The Tin Drum. I just found a lot of the story wilfully unpleasant. Perhaps the next book in Grass's trilogy, Cat and Mouse, might have been a better choice: the scene where the boys are sitting on the quayside seeing who could ejaculate the furthest (and feeding the seagulls) could have been a cinematic classic.

I would add Aimee Und Jaguar and a TV film starring Corinna Harfouch and Ulrich Tukur which in French is called Qui Est Cette Femme. Both super films.
Yella with Nina Hoss. Not for everybody but a beautifully executed film.
