He was about to start a nationwide theatre tour in Britain called 'David Gest Is Not Dead But Alive With Soul'

And a few years ago Joan Rivers was also due to come here on a nationwide tour called: 'Quick....Before They Close The Lid' But she died before, and how sadly apt that reads now for her and David Gest.

I know he was a bit odd, but he seemed a really nice genuine guy, very friendly with a good sense of humour.

RIP

Given the fact he was friends with Michael Jackson you can see where he might have came up with the idea of plastic surgery.

It's always quite noticeable how these extremely rich entertainers are worshiped by the public on the basis of the personalities they portray.
And the grieving they attract when they snuff it.
Basically they just get fat off the backs of people who have to do the proper work.
Although they do keep some of us amused.

To me they're lower than politicians or professional people who really get it in the necks from the public, yet they're the ones who keep the wheels turning for us.

Just what is so special about these celebrities. When everything they do is done simply for money?
Report posy • April 13, 2016 6:19 PM BST
Good post Crippen...unfortunately you can't over estimate the ability of the proletariat to lap up the carp television featuring so called celebrities that's aired to keep them quiet and off the streets. There are many words where the meaning is now directly opposite the original definition...'Entertainment' is at the top of the list with its never ending diet of Soap,Strictly Come Dancing,Big Brother,Celebrity this and that,Ant and Dec,Scroungers with talent etc.
Seems to me that as soon as anyone who has had 15 minutes of tv fame pops his clogs there's a race to put up a thread with the words RIP. It's a farce.

Report akabula • April 13, 2016 7:28 PM BST
So Posy lets look at the facts.
This is a chat forum, correct?
Somebody in the public eye died, correct?
Somebody posted the news, correct?
Others posted and added RIP as a mark of respect for the dead. correct?
How is it mawkish?
Report Dr Crippen • April 13, 2016 8:34 PM BST
There are around 500,000 deaths a year in the UK.
That's about 1370 deaths every day.

Isn't it disrespectful to the others to only grieve for the famous?
Don't the rest of us matter if we haven't starred in a film or cut a disc etc?

Either RIP the lot or leave it out.

Report clarkson • April 13, 2016 9:01 PM BST
'Twas always thus and will always be.

Someone in the public eye dies and a thread is started on chit chat, then it's game on for sympathy, banter, memories, criticism ,sarcasm ,bile, innuendo and respect.

I prefer the banter and general respect but concede and accept that anything goes.
Report akabula • April 13, 2016 9:29 PM BST
So are you saying DrC that we should just ignore the death of everyone in the public eye?
Report akabula • April 13, 2016 9:35 PM BST
I don't get the criticism.
The process is familiar by now.
Someone opens a thread on whatever - people add a comment - some good some bad - and that's it although because someone has died people end with RIP out of respect for the dead - is it that bit that you don't like?
Report annie. • April 13, 2016 9:45 PM BST
When I used to watch tv I liked to watch I'm a celebrity get me out of here because you could bet on it.  I gave that up when I stopped knowing hardly any of the contestants.

However, I saw the one with gest on it and he was the favourite at that time, if my memory serves me right.  I just did not understand how this could be.  My theory was that as bookmakers who set the odds are mainly men then they saw something that us women did not. But as it is mainly women who vote on this program I lumped on the others, job done!
Report posy • April 13, 2016 9:59 PM BST
Some nonentity celebrity who you don't know from Adam dies and you shed crocodile tears and talk of respect by adding RIP...Get a life
Report Dr Crippen • April 13, 2016 10:04 PM BST
akabula,

I'm merely drawing people's attention to the ridiculousness of putting celebrities on a pedestal.
I think it's very silly of people to display  emotion for someone they have never met, and  were entertainers they only ever saw on a television screen.
When one of them pops their clogs, I think about the poor souls who died that day and never led such a life of luxury as they have. And don't get a mention as if they've never existed.

It's sick if you think about.  Directing so much affection to celebrities simply because they're famous.
Men behaving like a bunch of teenage girls infatuated by a pop idle.

Okay the name comes up when they snuff it - big deal.
Oh dear never mind what a shame.
Just remember the rest who died and weren't famous.

You're making it up now Posy where did I or anyone else post anything that could justify your comment?
Report akabula • April 13, 2016 10:16 PM BST
@DrC I don't think anyone has put him on a pedestal or displayed any emotion.
I remember the outpouring of grief over Diana and couldn't fathom it out however this thread and most like them merely announce a death and people add a comment or two. Still can't see nought wrong with that.
Report posy • April 13, 2016 10:27 PM BST
akabula you actually seem a very nice guy as many people would have reacted in an irrational way to my criticism.
My reference to crocodile tears was in response to such a comment as Condolences to friends and family mentioned earlier in this thread. Do we really think friends and family read this forum/thread...if not what's the point of such a stupid statement.
