Local authorities run schools in Scotland not the government.
If the schools are deemed to be failing it is because "her" governments inspectors have gone in and deemed them not good enough or not fit for purpose. |

Local authorities run schools in Scotland not the government.
If the schools are deemed to be failing it is because "her" governments inspectors have gone in and deemed them not good enough or not fit for purpose. But the Government is responsible for the amount of money Local Authorities earn by freezing Council tax. |

''A total of 17 schools, including 10 primaries, five secondaries and two additional support needs schools, have been shut due to concern over the standard of construction.
They were all built under the same public private partnership (PPP) contract.'' BBC News, Under Tony Bair's government. |

@STVNews Built decade or so ago under ruinous PFI contracts by Labour. Scrapped by SNP in 2007. Replaced with Scottish Futures Trust 2008. |

Questions on previous PFI/PPP contracts 'must be asked' and 'answered', Nicola Sturgeon has said.
The First Minister's comments come in the wake of the closure of 17 Edinburgh schools following serious structural concerns with Oxgang primary school. All of the closed schools were constructed under the same PFI contract. Sturgeon said that the "priority is to get children back to school ASAP" however "questions must be asked, and in due course answered, about old PFI contracts that many feared put profits before quality". |

![]() "There are, of course, big questions about PFI contracts. It's no secret that this government has long-standing concern but I've no doubt that when parliament reconvenes in three or four weeks' time that there will be renewed interest in this area." ![]() ![]() There was a MP the other week who jetted back immediately from Australia to save the steel workers. |

Why would the government be going round checking building that have been signed off as safe by council building control?
Regardless of how these building were paid for the council oversaw their construction and failed to notice the flaws. That is where heads should roll. |

^Brown envelope jobs.

The Council Tax freeze means that local authorities have to cut back on maintenance of all buildings.
Sturgeon only interested in votes and will accept no part of the blame here. |

Nothing to do with Nicola. Local council authorities to blame. Take the blinkers off.
|
|
By:
Put yer wee flag doon mac anf look at the facts.
Council Tax freeze is stretching every local authority and no cash is available for anything other than reacting to problems. And why hasn't Constance been keeping herself uptodate with the conditions of our schools? Surely for future planning she should be aware of the condition of our buildings. |
|
By:
Aka take the blinkers off. Councils to blame. Blaming Nicola for dodgy tradesmen, your political bias is beyond comprehension. Yet, you never criticised the PM for using loopholes to avoid tax, the greedy barsteward.

By:
Never the SNPs fault.
Westminster doesn't give us enough cash is the normal response. In 2012 she was demanding devolved powers to allow Scotland to raise taxes by 1p. Said it would give Scotland £10 billion to spend on the NHS, Police and Education as well as help the fight against austerity. 2016 and she's now saying raising tax would cost us because the big earners would leave. In Scottish terms a wee bawbag. |
|
By:
Admit it, you just don't like her because you will be getting deported when the day comes
![]() ![]() |
|
By:
No mac not blaming her for dodgy workmen but I am blaming her from starving councils of funds to the point that theyt cannot afford to spend cash having buildings checked out.
And why isn't Constance aware of this? |
|
By:
But that's what free enterprise is all about, contracts to the lowest bidders who obviously cut corners. You get what you pay for. Councils to blame.
|
|
By:
Better Together mac.
Look at Europe and the utterings of the SNP in their case for staying in the EU. Referring to the current immigrant problem they said "We shouldn't turn our backs on our neighbours in their time of need" So Germany, Italy and Greece are neighbours but England isn't. ![]() |
|
By:
Typical SNP behaviour mac. Ignore the real problem.

Come on aka, you know yourself that the greatest trait of Scots is their compassion and generosity. When Carlisle got flooded, we were the first offering help and sent provisions with many volunteers. I like my neighbours but I don't want them running my household.

The real problem is local councils hiring dud tradesmen. They are too blame. I don't know who run the local councils involved, but they are to blame, whether Tory, Labour or SNP.
|
|
By:
Anyways what about Constance?
|
|
By:
She is responsible for education issues but not brickies.

Local councils to blame including any SNP ones.

She is responsible for everthing to do with Education mac.
She has to keep parliament uptodate. Part of that would be on the condition of the buildings. Or do you think we should just wait for one to fall down before replacing it? |
|
By:
I'm off to watch my bets. More important to me than dodgy brickwork. They should have hired some Poles, first class workers.
